| following Derek's example. i can break 100 in the wrong direction any day.
i would:
1) focus on the swing and the swing only, with at least 5 latest swing thoughts learnt from youtube. 2) not practise short game ever 3) always go for hero shots, the lob shots, the 2 on for par fives, attack sucker pins 4) only play to my ego distance limits (you know, the longest i ever hit my 7 iron kind), not average distances hit. 5) chip with sand wedge or lob wedge. 6) play with long irons 7) ( feel free to add to this list)

| Actually I like to chip with a P or 9 at times. In fact almost 80% of the game, it's abt chip and putt. If you can master these 2. 90s should not be a big problem.
To add on, know the rules well, sometimes it can work to your advantage, also if your ball enter the hazards, be smart don't be stubborn go in front and drop a ball rather than I see a lot of beginner teeing up another another another...according to rules that consider as 3 shots, 5 shots and etc.

Sounds like John Daley in Australia Open ... he "dumped" all his balls into the lake and he ran out of balls as a result ... He subsequently walked out of the tournament claiming that he has ran out of balls ... I think he lost his appearance fee and would not be invited to play in this tourney anymore ...

A par 3 would be par, par 4 would be birdie and par 5 eagle.....

| Stay on the fairway. This means that if your driver is shaky, can it and tee off with a club you're more comfortable with.
Golf does not always reward the brave but often punishes the careless.

Agreed! Dun be so careless and end up playing snakes with you-know-who. Having said that, snakes is a great game to help break 100. Techno will agree will that....

| My last game with you-know-who was fun. He didn't play snakes (thank God!!) but his MF was FULL ON!! Non-stop MF from the moment we met at the clubhouse until we parted ways at the 19th. I think surviving MF will also help keep the score below 100. | |

He also taught me how to break 100 when I was struggling to play below 100. Not all holes have to be played for par. ie. trying to get regulation for par 4s in 2, par 5s in 3. some holes a bogey or double bogey is a good score depending on your handicap. Tee-off, its better to be away from hazards like OB but short on the fairway than into the hazard and taking the 3rd shot from the tee-box. Play to your tendencies, if you are always playing a fade/slice, play for it, aim left of target and fire away, don't aim at target and hope you hit it straight.

| Just a shout out to the friends and colleagues of CQL who have just started on the game. Had such a good time chatting with CQL yesterday, where it was shared that they have a friendly motivational bet going on where they are trying to outdo each other with better scores and technique.
the posts shared here are completely relevant and very helpful to all these new inductees to the game. Putt into the greens from 50m out, play fast, make new friends, stay on the fairways.
Good luck and have fun! | |

| I'll share my experience: 1. Get good... A good coach helps a lot. Practice weakest club until you get at least 80% good hits. 2. Get better... Free the mind and focus here and now. 3. Know yourself, and when to push. Winners know when to push and when to quit pushing. 4. Practice chipping and putting... Easy to GIR, but no use to have 3-4 putts. Chipping has to be good enough to get the ball within 2-3m on the pin. From there, putting skills come into play. 5. Gym regularly. Golf is not about golf, but about the overall person. Have good training for the core muscles, shoulders, arms, and legs and you will have better consistent swings. 6. Have patience. Braking 100 (maybe even 90) is about being good, getting better. It takes time and the correct way to do it. Some range everyday, some range once a week, and oth can achieve the same results in the same period of time.
Cheers! | |

| breaking 100 to me is all about getting in on fairway and don't waste to much shot on water or OB and bunker. This simply means mid iron to low iron and driver/wood. I prefer wood as its more versatile (fairway and off tee). mid and low iron get's you near the green at least at PAR -1. Your aim is 3 put for double boggey.. this means 72 + (18*2) = 108.. a few lucky ones you 'll break it to par / boggey and get that 99 score. Just don't try too hard, its' all about consistency not how far or how hard you hit.
I break 100 with wood and iron without driver, but hey that's me.

| lol.. yeah my math sucks.. but it should get you close.. the most problem I see is trying too hard, (trying to hit harder than necessary, too many expectation etc). Enjoy, swing like you do on the range without thinking about the score bunker and just maintain consistency between driving range and course. Good luck. | |

| I think you need to track your score, how many putts, how many FIR, GIR, penalty, then you will know where your weaknesses is.
I found putting mat is extremely useful to make sure you have a consistent putting, reading the green is come from experience, the key is to know how to putt it straight.
I did that and it works for me

| I had a few instances where I broke 100. Typically that happens when:
1. High fairway hit fm tee off 2. Try not to max out 2nd shot....but focus on direction 3. Imagine the hole on green is 5 ft in radius...coz 5 ft is my max comfort zone.....then try to land within 5 ft....hopefully after the hole.
I was lucky most times to be able to achieve the 3 things above.
Thanks..and hope this helps.

| I hope I can achieve the below in order to come under 100; being playing ard 110s. - Consistent swing for my driver (dun slice n go OB) save 2 stroke Liao - Able to hit up to 5Iron (2nd shot can reach 170m) - Chip or pitch smoothly below 25m (reach within 10m of pin) - Maintain my current putting stroke (ard 2 putts) for par or bogey
With all the above, I shld be able to hit under 100.
