| play with it , i say. work it into your game, fades are great for accuracy. snap hooks on the other hand are a different animal. arnie would say " swing your swing" | |

Ideally I would like my club face to be square at address. But because in my takeaway, my club face is so open and I am not able to close it back in time to square at impact, the swing path follows an out to in, hence slicing to the right. I am a newbie golfer, been hitting balls for 6 months now, obtained my handicap in month 4. Just thought I could relate to <cactuzone>, being new and in the midst of trying to break 100. Just sharing what I did as a quick fix, i.e. by closing my club face at address. By no means that is good habit in the long run, but this helped me hit dead straight drives into fairway quite consistently last I tried.

| Iowowa, two wrongs to make a right may work in the interim for your full driver swing. But may not with your iron swing and for pitches and chips. It may even cause more complications in the other parts of your game.
Fix the root cause for consistency in all parts of your game.

| Actually these days, manufacturers often release 'pro' model drivers to cater to the better players, and 'draw' model drivers to cater to slicers
Pro model drivers tend to have open face at address Draw model drivers tend to have closed face at address
So, it is not unusual if at address, some of you may find your driver face looking closed or open at address. Of course if you have a square face driver, it should sit square at address unless you manipulate it.

| I thought its useful to define the slice
There is a pushslice, a slice and pullslice. The difference is the original initial direction of the ball flight and thats largely influenced by the club face angle on impact.
I also started out golfing push slicing way right, then using closed face clubs turned them into pull slice or fade shots. Only after a while i learned to tame that outside path just a bit, now i cant play closed face clubs. Always pulled it left.

| I tend to have my driver face a bit open at address. This reminds me to swing the driver from in to out and to release the club. It doesn't always work but I tend to get more fairways these days. | |

| I game the R11s and personally i like to have it sit a degree or two open. Really allows me to hit the aggressive draw without fear of missing left. | |

| MLP, Is open face a result of sole plate adjustment or hosel adjustments?
I still dont get that sole plate thingy...

| pushslice,
mine is a result of hosel adjustments.
but in case you dont already know, assuming that your driver is of 9 degrees of loft... every "step" up in loft on the hosel will close the face angle and if you go down in loft it opens.
the face plate is useful in situations when you want to counteract that effect. ie when you raise the loft to 10.5, the face is now 1.5 degrees close. hence you can use the face plate to open the face by 1.5 degrees to bring it back to neutral
