I played baseball and tennis, both at a competitive level. But it is baseball that I feel is more connected to golf. The hip turn when u are about to contact or just contact the ball?

But observers (my kakis) say that my size helps? I am 6"1 and ard 250lbs... Big sized guy...

Like I said, my swing may have problems... So am considering getting a coach soon...

Not expert... Maybe able to hit due to a combination of factors like my past sports and size...

you might want to be careful with your hip turn thingy. the important thing in the downwing is the lateral weight shift from right to left, and followed by the "squat move" as u see in tiger's swing not the hip turn . the hip turn occurs because of a natural action from the swing, as the swing will cause your whole body to rotate through after the lateral shift followed by downcock and release. thats why i say its more similar to throwing the baseball compared to hitting. when u throw the baseball there is a lateral shift of weight from right side to the left side rather than spinning the hips. most people become "hip spinners" because they have too much hip turning and end up with their weight on their right side during impact, causing blocked shots to the right or even hooks if u try to close the clubface in an attempt to salvage the block. my few cents.

OT a little - I was impressed with MBGC... The range is huge... Plus this month, as I am clearing leave, can enjoy hitting 4 cent balls in the morning!

Whilst you are there, drop by the MGK office to check out on getting your PC, handicap and membership.

thats useful isnt it? with all them water hazards around?

BTW I think getting a PC here in Singapore or anywhere else for that matter, is a waste of time. If ure good enough for a PC you're good enough for a HC which offers no boundaries to play in Singapore.

There are alot of ways and facilities to help with you get a HC. Not too sure if you've already got one. Drop me a PM and I can give you a contact.

Cheers

I will definitely skip the PC and get a HC directly. OCC and MBGC can be played with a swing test. EGC and Fairways are good beginner grounds. I would just play and get the 5 rounds of 18-holes and go straight for courtesy round with the pro.

Hi TMKL, my 2 cents of advice. I started with beginner lessons, then kept practicing by watching videos and could hit fairly well, but I was still afraid that if I kept practicing the wrong thing, it's gonna be even harder to change later on, so I decided to get a coach to 'fine-tune'. My coach ended up tweaking many things about my golf, from address to swing, so luckily I had caught the small mistakes in time. Video proof and more consistent and longer shots were all the evidence I need. So it's still best to get someone to take a look at your golf, other than 'yourself'. That's all the advice I can give so far. Happy golfing! Cheers!
