| Where do you mainly miss on straight putts? left of hole or right of hole? Seems that we seem to think that the flat stick is the easiest to aim, but it seems that there is a lot to aiming a flatstick Which of the above putter is most square to the left window line. Naked eye only, no cheating. | |

| I would say the one on the left. Proper aim & alignment is the foundation of a good putt. But having properly aimed, we need to return the club to this position when swinging and in my own experience, I find that if I maintain the same grip pressure throughout the swing, I would have a much higher chance of getting the ball off on the right line. In my anxiety to hit the putt, I sometimes unconsciously tighten my grip on the downswing and that causes a slight change in the position of my putter face and the result is an obvious miss! | |

Yes getting back square is good, but what if your aim was off during setup? Would getting back square do you any good?

| Although it does look like the extreme left one is square, i think that all 3 of them are square to the line.. maybe the different shaft leans are playing havoc with our eyes. I could be wrong though.. in which case i know the reason for constantly missing short putts ! | |

| IMO, correct setup / square is middle one (Assuming the loft @4deg (Scotty)), messing with the loft would mess up the CG. And only fine putter alignment inline with their CG. | |

Would getting back square do you any good? That is why I said the proper aim and alignment is the foundation. If this is not done correctly, then it would be pointless to bring the club back to square.

| They are all actually square to the left side window How you perceived the squareness of the putters are in part due to our master eye and putter design in these case, me being a right master eye person, the left putter appears more close(result right bias) and the right putter more open(result left bias).Center one appears square. But I have to return my putter square first. Tests have shown that 80% of golfers who think that they are aiming at the cup from a 6 feet distance are not. So key is that we have to aim correctly, so knowing your aim bias will help you make more putts | |

| Does that conclude a right bias person should use a mallot putter and left bias the stick putter? | |

| You can find this book in the library. It has a very good section on how putter's design affect the aim, alignment, etc. Even the shape of the putter, type of hosel, amount of offset can affect the aim. Very good read if you have the time.

looking at the 3 putters in the pic, observations
1)the mallet has a curved back, giving it a close look(left aim bias)
2)while the other two blade putters appears to be the same, the center appears thicker than the extreme right one. The thinner look tends to promote a right aim bias

| Interesting ... i realised a long time ago that I can't seem to align my putter face perpendicular to the direction i want the ball to go ...
I used to draw alignment lines on my balls, then align the putter face to it, but when I look down, both the line and the face seem to be pointing left of the target ... aside from master eye, I am sure the position of my head over the ball might be causing some kind of parallex error ... in short, my eyes were probably sending the wrong message to my head
This led to me adjusting and missing a lot of putts to the right, or worrying about my stroke, or trying to manipulate the face, or a million other things that was causing me to be a really lousy putter on the course ... however, on a putting mat, on when there is an alignment line to follow, i was a pretty decent putter
Somewhere along the way, I decided to just focus on a spot about 6-8 inches in front of the ball (along the line that I want to hit) and just think about getting the ball to roll over that spot. Occasionally, if there are no markings on the green to serve as reference points, I will align the ball markings to that line. Key point is that once I do that, I have to TRUST that line, even though when I address the ball, it looks wrong (the dissonance is the reason I don't line up the ball in the first place) and commit to hitting it along that line.
I am not a good putter, but taking away the doubt as helped me go from a really F**Ked up putter to a average/slightly below average putter, and i hole slightly more 4 foot putts now as when I used to worry about my stroke and my aim and everything else.
I really envy the guys whose eyes, brain signals and stroke all match up and send the same signal. Unfortunately, I am not one of them, so I had to find a way around it, which has produced ok results for me ... now if only my problems with the other parts of my game were as easy to work around
