Swing speed of 6i ~85; prefer low trajectory, light weight and good feedback.

Which is the following shaft would you pick / have you played / currently playing?

S200, S300, PX5.0, PX5.5, KBS Tour, KBS C Taper

Thx for sharing!

apart from the KBS, which has the 90g option,i think the rest which you have identified are not really 'light weight' by normal standards.

The S200 and S300 are the heaviest, followed by PX.

As for trajectory, the general rule is that the stiffer the flex, the lower the trajectory.

As for feedback, i think it's a very personal thing. Also depends on what club head u are using.

I've tried all the above except S200. My preference is PX5.5. Not too heavy, not too light. And i can really feel the shaft "loading" on the downswing.

I'm using a Miyazaki C.Kua 59g regular flex shaft for all my irons.

It works for me though. Cos of my slow swing speed.

Usually lightweight mean high launch for steel shaft. The lowest launch steel shaft which is considered lightweight is the NS PRO 950 / 850. KBS Tour 90, TT GS 95 are high launch shafts. I am using TT GS 95 currently and the ball flight is really high. Also consider steelfiber i95 shaft which has mid-high kickpoint for low launch.

Rather than guessing, as jeffman88 said, a visit to a good fitter should prove to be interesting for you.

good luck.

From my swing, ns pro hi launch and balloon;
Switched to PX, loved the kick, but I still think it is high launch;
Played KBS Tour, like the smoothNess and feedback, but no kick and hi ball flight
Heckled with S300, loved it but felt arms got longer after 13holes. LOL!
Finally got to play a round with S200; but I didn't feel and see any difference from S300

I've changed to KBS from Project X 6.5

I'd recommend the KBS Tour over anything else just felt better in my opinion and produced a much better flight. Always thought the project X and DG launched a little low.

Mine are X-Flex. My 6 iron was clocked at 92MPH so I'd recommend the stiff.

Bro IGT....

Most likely the choice will be between KBS Tour and KBS C-Taper..

Concur with Pro mattpro0796 on the ball flight for KBS Tour. KBS Tour is so easy and effortless coming from True Temper Dynamic Gold..

C-Taper had lower initial launch than Dynamic Gold, feel was different and it produced that 'kick" when you hit the sweet spot. The "kick" tends to be stronger on the KBS C Taper than the Dynamic Gold.

Suggest you visit a fitter, try these out and see what you like.

All the best on your search for the right shaft Very Happy

I was playing X100s on Mizuno MP33s for a number of yrs and loved the trajectory and control i got with them. however, due to injury, swing speed dropped alot and i've lost alot of distance and started to look for lighter shafts.

I've tried KBS Tour. like most here. I really like them, but was warned against getting used KBS shafts.
I also like the feedback that PX shafts give me, but somehow find them a tad heavy. (arms felt longer after a round as u put it. Razz)
NSPro, too high trajectory.
S300s. erm.. can't really comment cus only played 2 rounds with them then itchy backside go change to S200s.
S200s. like u said.. not much diff from S300s.

I changed my S300s to S200s thinking that i'd lose a few grams and gain a few yards. But they came out heavier than the S300s. reason being... Swing weight.
Originally with S300s. Swing weight was at D2. when i changed them out to S200s. My fitter gave me progressive swing weight which i also requested. i think my 9 and PW are D3 or D4. 8 iron is D3 and of cus the longer irons are D2. Using TM tour preferred MB heads. How the fitter builds the clubs also plays a part, as in how they balance the clubs. Some clubs may feel light and head heavy, while others.. u can't really feel the head weight. What heads u use also makes a diff.

what i'm trying to say is. the lighter the shaft, doesn't really mean that ur swing weight will go down. visit a fitter and hit some balls off the simulator. the numbers will tell u what suits u best.

IMHO. As far as swing weight is concerned. i think if i want my clubs to be set at D1. i think it can be done too. Also, trajectory can also be changed with minor adjustments to ur swing and setup.

i will share my insights on finding the right shaft...

the right shaft is one that you can swing 80 to 100%. it is also the shaft that allows you to start and complete your swing and still be in control.

i really do not worry too much about trajectory at this point as the weight of the shaft is the key. then once that is established, it's important to understand why the golfer is hitting it low or high. most of the time its a function of the swing and not the shaft. once the golfer gets swinging comfortably, its now time to consider what the shaft characteristic and kick point will do to the golfer's biomechanical movements. when the shaft is not right, often you will notice a less than desired swing movement. when its right, the transition from takeaway to finishing is often smooth, balanced and confident.

different shafts produce different results, sometimes its the shaft and sometimes its the golfer and sometimes its the swing. it is important to know which is which.

fitting can be a science but most of the time it is an art. coaxing good performance in a control environment is easy but when the golfer is on his own on the course. he needs to know why he is succeeding or failing. hence the job is not done when one if fitted, the golfer needs to understand why he failed and how to get it right every time.

just remember what works for some may not work for you. also it is equally important to know that the right shaft (weight and characteristic) will almost always trigger the right movement. Lastly, feel and performance are 2 different animal, so spent some time looking at where your shots go and do not just rely on your feel senses to guide you.

sometimes you have to lose control to gain control, take one step back so that you can take 3 steps forward. so when you are fitted with the right shaft, you may feel uneasy at first but your biomechanics movement will never lie...but its often ignore because golfers are too caught up with finding the "feel".

hope it helps........DGman

DGman(eric) has mostly said it all on his points.
It can be golfers, can be shafts, can be downswing load, can be trapping of ball, can be many things.

Do visit a CERTIFIED clubfitter.

a swing speed about 85mph will turn into what distance on range balls? I would want to consider some advices fellow GRians gave on this topic. I currently hit my 7I 150m on range balls and my last measured driver SS is 100mph 6month ago.
