These are my stats on FB, (I got lazy and stopped posting since last mth ):
https://apps.facebook.com/golfgame/user/blog/14020
If you look at my FIR and GIR, I only hit the fairway and greens about half the time. The reason I dun blow my scores is that I avg under 2 putts per hole for the 33 recorded rounds. That record still suck cos I miss the greens 50% of the time. If my GIR goes up, my scores will be better but in reality, so will the putts per hole (cos it also records 1 chip 1 putt as 1 putt oni).
You dun concentrate on 1 aspect when u want to break a certain score. U just have to spend more time practicing more shots but the short game shd never be neglected. period. Pro, you are my idol.
How do keep track of those statistic? Your caddie? Any software, tool?
Maybe you can tell us what else is important to break 100,90,80, other than hitting sweat spot with the club. How does those statistic help?
(Or maybe you want to say get your swing right first before thinking of statistic?) Very easy. Just record your stat for every hole. I do it in between walking to the next tee box or if you take a buggy, while waiting for your turn to hit or ur buddies to finish. I have been playing golf for quite a while so its easier for me to remember what club i hit on every hole and what was the result so i will sit down end of the day to record it into my stats. They help you see which aspect of your game needs work. For me, I can always do more with better Driving and putting. GIR is subjective cos some days I have no rhythm so missing greens is inevitable but ur short game shd be your savior like some here says. In the stats, I can have some great ball striking rounds but with so-so scores (high 70s - low 80s). There are some rounds too where I have not been ace w the hitting but my chipping and putting were great to come back w a solid score. I alr mention what u shd work on. The next thing u shd have is patience for your game to improve. Results don't happen overnite.

| break 100:
1) no penalty strokes, ie no water, OB, lost ball 2) dun need to play GIR, play around it, avoid all hazards
course management is key, ie, par 4, 320m, fw bunker at 200m, play short of bunker, say 180m, left 140m to pin, but got greenside bunker, so lay up at 120m, your fairway is so much bigger than the green, then left with 20m chip, just try to chip on n 2/3 putted, bogey/double still better than 7 or 8 on a par 4, breaking 100 is within range
of cos, short game is important, but when starting out, not many will focus on short game, just wanna go range to fly the ball with irons/woods...... beginner started out this way, i also started out this way, only as one gets to know the game better, then will focus on short game
thats how i would break 100

| for my view, to break 100 can be very easy but no fun...
if say u juz use yr favr n consistent club like 7 iron even for tee off, i believe breaking 100 is not tht hard but where's the fun?
for white tees, avr par 4 ard 340m... using 7 iron can definitely 3 on and avoid penalty,,, even par 5 avr 450, u can rch in 4's....
