| Someone told me this... quote:
to break 100 , practice chipping and putting
to break 90 , practice short irons , PW , 9, 8
to break 80 , mid irons , 5,6,7 unquote.
Any comments? | |

| I totally agree with the first part " to break 100 , practice chipping and putting" but maybe add in 'pitching' as well since this was my case recently. As for the other two pts, I'm in no position to comment cos never break 90/80 yet.. haha... But will try this "brk 90/80 concept" to see if it works! heh, thanks for the tip bro! Oh ya, to add, I think for my case in breaking 100 was more off being a smarter player than being a more skilful player... more course mgt and less gung-ho "PGA Tour shot" attempts (e.g. punch out if in trees area instead of trying a draw/fade that hits more brown bark than greens...) JMHO. | |

| I think sometime back on the old forum......i i can recall......Fabulous MuarChee wrote bout the same thing....
He said to break 100, your drive and woods on the fairway has to be good. To break 90, your drive, wood, chipping and putting has to be good. To break 80, damn....you gotta be good in everything!!!!

Any comments? i am not fabulous. I am me. boomz. but i will think it is the other way. Work your long game first through to your short game. Hitting the Fairway and greens is much bigger/easier compared to the bottom of the cup. then again, it is just me. and how i see things.

| Sorry hor, to break 100, 90, 80: Work on your short game ALL THE TIME. Do not neglect it whatever hurdle you are trying to overcome next. U can hit it great but if you cannot chip or putt to save ur life, u r the kind of opponent that I love to go against. It'll be like taking candy from a baby. Hitting well will come over time. I have been playing the game for almost 20yrs and still drive it wildly. However, the difference in my game is that I know how to get around the greens and into the hole in fewer strokes. Your short game, like a GF, will desert you if you neglect it. | |

| I haven't seen anyone break 80 with more than 36 putts btw. If you have, you probably would have witnessed tour calibre ball-striking abilities. | |

After all, golf is about management of bad shots (for me at least) bwahahaha...

Bro, you sound like TW already. His 2nd shot save his butt and 14majors. Allow me to add comment and you tell me if it make sense: to break 100 , practice chipping and putting you can miss green everytime but need chip and putt to save boguey/par. to break 90 , practice short irons , PW , 9, 8 short par4 with short iron get you GIR and save par to break 80 , mid irons , 5,6,7 long par4 for birdies and par

| Sorry, but I didn't learn to play golf that way. I'm also no TW. These are my stats on FB, (I got lazy and stopped posting since last mth ): https://apps.facebook.com/golfgame/user/blog/14020 If you look at my FIR and GIR, I only hit the fairway and greens about half the time. The reason I dun blow my scores is that I avg under 2 putts per hole for the 33 recorded rounds. That record still suck cos I miss the greens 50% of the time. If my GIR goes up, my scores will be better but in reality, so will the putts per hole (cos it also records 1 chip 1 putt as 1 putt oni). You dun concentrate on 1 aspect when u want to break a certain score. U just have to spend more time practicing more shots but the short game shd never be neglected. period. | |

How do keep track of those statistic? Your caddie? Any software, tool? Maybe you can tell us what else is important to break 100,90,80, other than hitting sweat spot with the club. How does those statistic help? (Or maybe you want to say get your swing right first before thinking of statistic?)
