Got to agree that complacency is probably the biggest issue during the last breakdown, the staff were not prepared to handle such a situation. Hopefully a better management will improve that
This is because our Sinkapo Ministers are being paid top dollars and they become multi millionaires after serving one full term. Therefore, we expect them to deliver in a world class fashion, and as such, they can ill afford to make mistake ... We can't stop reminding ourselves that they are being paid much more than the Ministers from the world biggest economies ... If the CEO of SMRT fails to deliver, the Transport Minister & the Transport Authority should jointly be held responsible as well ...

I remember a SG mandarin drama series where an Auntie was volunteering in a church . A pastor noticed that she seemed unhappy and asked her about it. She said she felt unappreciated for her efforts that she put in to her marriage and her husband is still the same. Coming home, lazing around, never once complimenting her on what she has done for the family and taking care of the household chores. The pastor then asked her if she loved her volunteer work at the church, which she said yes to. He asked, if she were to spend hours baking cookies for the church folks and one grumpy old man came up to complain about the taste of her cookies, how would she react? Would she feel unappreciated for her time and efforts in doing volunteer work? She said yes. The pastor then said, in life, we tend to do things with expectations that others will appreciate our efforts. When the compliments do not come as expected, we tend to get upset. When we do it out of love, we must also enjoy the process and feel gratified and happy just because we are doing what we love. By expecting others to see our efforts in order to feel happy is just not practical as this act will diminish our happiness. instead of feeling unappreciated because of what the grumpy old man said, why not just smile at him and ask if it was too salty for his liking? The next time she bakes, just add less salt. The end result, she takes it in her stride, the grumpy old man is less grumpy.

Yes, it is such a pity for a nice country to be like that ... It is all $$$$$$ things People living in SG doesnt know what is a real traffic jam like until you get one in Jakarta....everyday!! So, i think having the current is system in SG is good just need to give it time to improve. At least there is some small improvements. If you want much more, then you have to be ready to fork out $ per trip, so people using public transportation have their expectation corrected. There were also comments which to me are also fair, i think people would be willing to pay more but not to fatten the wallets of its top management and owners/shareholders. Nevertheless in reality, it a company and its looking to make profits.

Actually I'm quite curious. Does the situation in the bottom pic really happen on a daily basis in SG?

This is only in TV. Its different in real life. I agree that if you want to do something, you got to do it out of your own accord and expect nothing in return. Any returns will be a bonus. I learnt this the hard way. To put it in perspective, I did two orders of shirts before 'voluntarily', underwrite the whole thing on my own. Response was good but money collection was bad. So who can I smile at and ask when am I going to be paid for personalized shirts that are not meant for me? This is not the only case, another more fed up story is with regards to a 'princess' and a hybrid club. K N N. Moral of the story? Do not volunteer anything again for people I hardly know. I will do favours, shirt orders and game organization only for people I know personally.

| Bro,Thank you very much hah... what I wrote is for the new CEO to make the 2 most important stakeholders of his job happy:(1) Shareholder(2) MRT/SMRT Bus PassengersOn who is to be of priority, it is up to him to table at the Board meeting. May be he will strike a balance, may be he will sacrifice one for the other, who knows? it depends on his values..... I no need any public service to make me happy although I pay tax here in Sillypore, me is the smallest fry butterflying from Sillypore to the rest of Asia & back most of my time just to make a meagre livingHave a great week aheadCheers - lsh87 wrote:
- Ai seh, you should seriously write an email to SMRT stating all these objectives, RESPECT for you boss
There is only one issue, if he is to maximise profit, he can easily do through a couple of ways, some of which will be extremely unpopular:
1. Request for a raise in ticket price (If I am not wrong, there is a govt board in-charge of this but he can always request and might get approved )
2. Increase the efficiency of his employees, retrenching many of less efficient local workers and employing cheaper more efficient foreign workers. From what i see, SMRT does society a service and actually employs quite a few "older" workers that would struggle to find work and true "profit driven" companies)
3. In an ideal world, there will be growth on the MRT, where a higher requirement for manpower will be satisfied by the increasing efficiency of the current employees and also better processes. No need for increase in fares as there will be increase economics of scale.
Option 3 would be an ideal but unrealistic solution and most probably it will be a mix of the 3 options. Would you be happy than?

- Primary Objective:
(1) restore public confidence and trust in the public transport operator
(2) more profit & higher ROE for shareholders
Secondary Objectives (debatable as does not add to shareholder value - it is monopoly!!!!):
(1) Solve the MRT overcrowding situation during peak hours
(2) Zero Breakdown of Trains
Performance Benchmark: Hong Kong MTR (FYI, Hong Kong MTR system is older, more complex lines, yet I dare say, lower number of breakdowns per passenger volume, higher frequency of train trips, and the train runs faster!)
Timeline:
Ok lah, cut some slag since he's human.... but hor, he very high caliber & so much $$ behind his business.... Hmmm.... within 12 months!

I will do favours, shirt orders and game organization only for people I know personally. MC, I totally understand what u went through as I have the same experience. The positive aspect of this is, we learned to be smarter after losing out the first time. Like what you said, you will only do it now for people that you know whom you trust. I organized games, helped friends to source for equipment only to get reprimanded when people don't show up on the day, or not honor the price agreed upon. It can be a thankless task. The one episode that bitten me hard was last year's sg vs johor Ryder cup game rematch that was supposed to happen in sg. I tried to get a team but the Jb kakis were all adopting the "the date is too far away, let's talk about it as it gets closer" attitude. At the end, I was not able to respond to the sg folks with a confirmation. That made me look bad in front of my friendly opponents and on Jb side, I was deemed too pushy. Again, I inadvertently got myself to step on dog Pooh. Like you, I still volunteer my time to arranging games and other stuff. I do weigh the consequences and am selective on who I help. It will be for people who will not jeopardize my credibility. If we look at the outcome from a different view and focus on the positive, it is through our acts that we can find new like minded people that we can become good friends with. Other people's actions speaks volumes of their own character and we can decide for ourselves whether we want to engage with them in the future. BTW, your comment about such things only happening in tv series is one that I disagree with. I found the message meaningful and it gave me a new perspective. I have learned to enjoy my efforts and not get bogged down by unkind words. It made a lot of sense to me.
