| You guys play off blue. What did you shoot?
Have you shot even par or less off White?
If not why didnt you just join them off white? Golf is a game about etiquette. You and your friend simply appear to be impatient pompous people.

I guess some people forgotten how they played when they just picked up the game. . In many of times I seen this not only in MBGC also in NSRCC as well. Remember a time when I was playing in NSRCC, my buggy mate was a beginner so he's a bit slow, well at least he can play ok. But the other buggy play as if they were from another flight. My buggy mate was quite kan cheong, so i told him just relaxed play your own game, if they wanna rush ahead they got hit by him, just too bad. @hkhamateur, I hope those 2 guys are not on the forum or any of his friends not also.

| Guys Guys Guys..... Why the hostility...??? Let us look at the intention of the post from another angle.. A half full glass is same as half empty one.. So why make it sound so negative?? The way I read it is different: 1. Two balls joined ( foreigners). Did hkh say anything about a**** ??? Did he degrade them? No.... So who's the one and why bring up the "a****"??2. They were late n joined us on e second hole par 3. This is the first of what hkh is trying to imply in the post.. Why were they allowed to join in when they were that late.. Knowing the course, they must have been like what, 25 minutes late?? Think it's universal practice to arrive at least 10 minutes before the tee time.. Ok maybe they couldn't find their way and were lost.. Fine.. Lets move on...3. Introduced n was shocked after we mentioned we teed off blue. Hkh again trying to imply why they were not made known where each other were teeing off from when they booked the flight at the counter.. 4. Newbie, left right top duff u named it. Ok, Hkh was naming the fact but perhaps it is a bit insensitive to newbies like me too... 5. Abit annoyg bt right after we completed our frt 9, they re nice to tell us they need to run an urgent errands. Again, some honesty from Hkh but a bit insensitive... He is honest again to say he felt they were nice to excuse themselves and he appreciated that..6. Now we shld question e management abt e pairg lor! Tad da !!!!! Now, we know this is what Hkh is trying to tell us, that the Management at MBGC should have told all the golfers in that flight that 2 were playing from blue and the other 2 from white, and asked whether they were comfortable with that ??!!We know MBGC isn't that cheap ($88?? on weekdays) and a week day game may be hard to come by for working adults who have to apply work leave etc... In that frame of mind, one would only wanna make the full use of that one game a week... I am Not defending anyone here, but just reading from a different angle, and interpreting the post less negatively (no offense to anybody), I deduce that the point Hkh was trying to put across is that sometimes Course Manager could help prevent unpleasantness within the flight... First by taking a bit more effort in paying attention to the handicaps of the players and secondly by making a note to them if there's some mismatch... Very often, the counter staff in other courses would inform me and asked if I mind a better player is in my flight etc.. If this was done that day, I'm sure the 4 of them would have had a better experience.. Perhaps also I had the opportunity to play a game with Hkh to say he was very patient with me when he had to wait for me... And I don't think he called anybody an a******* here.... So to the rest of the guys, please try to read it again from a different angle.. | |

| That's one way to look at it. However the point I'm trying to make is that you should do your best to accommodate people in your flight this is after all the game of golf:) And patience is a virtue.
It's also why I don't play at mbgc anymore. Because I have no patience

Perhaps in situations like the above, rather than blame elements outside our control, we can take control of the situation. Rather than assume and be surprised after it's too late, a quick discussion between the joining two balls and the marshall would have yielded valuable information. I'm not sure if a two ball flight was allowed, if so, we can politely decline to have others join in the flight, citing some reasonable excuse (As the other two did at the end of the first nine). I have on occasion refused to join or allowed others to join in a flight, not because I am unfriendly. More because it was apparent that either myself or the other party would end up not enjoying the round because of incompatibility reasons. And don't we all set aside the day to look forward to an enjoyable time out on the course? If they are faster, I will allow them to play ahead of me. If I am faster, I tell them to hang back and relax so they won't be stressed out by my pace. If however, we end up stuck in a situation where we are held up, I will request to separate and play ahead citing dinner or some other appointment. If that's not possibe, then like Derek suggests, we should make try to make the most of a bad situation. I hope this helps anyone with a two ball flight in future.

| playing 2 ball is not proper golf etiquette....so i am not sure what other golf etiquette we are talking about.....some courses cannot even play if only 2 ball...
BTW MBGC is a public course for all players....those that want to play a proper golf course where proper etiquette are observed, join a golf club or pay lots of $$ to play in one.
however..ironically, the most irritating flight mate (stranger joined our flight) is the one that actually played the correct way..take the whole 5 mins to search for a ball....play actual no of stokes....will hit as many times as need to get out of a bunker, will play until the ball is in the hole...all within the rules....and that guy actually give a disapproving face when you dont follow the rules to the letter and will give 'advise' on proper etiquette and what u should do....he also took his time (well within the rules) to setup before his swing or putt......i feel like telling him, he was not suppose to play single ball and gate crash a flight of 3 ball IF he was so serious about the game of golf, especially at a public course. No serious real player will insist on full etiquette compliance at a public course....Those that just want to have fun are fully welcomed.
also as for the pairings..dont know why MBGC will pair a single handicapper with our flight of 3 balls 20 and above handicapper.

Just my point of view... I don't think an average player (incl. beginner) is guaranteed to be a slow player or will slow-down play. In contrast, you may bump into a better player who has the similar pre-shot routine like say... Kevin Na, too? (didn't see much of him on TV, just read criticism from newspaper). Anyway, be it average or better player, as long as we are conscious enough to bring a 1, 2 or even 3 more clubs in hand if unsure of exact distance (putter along if they are like 30-40m away from green), I believe the pace will be alright. Bottomline, it's always good to be ready for your shot once the player before you took his.

Actually, 2 and even 1 ball flights are a common occurrence on most golf courses around the world. Watch the upcoming British Open and you'll see ample evidence of it. It's predominantly here in Singapore, and some in M'sia, where courses don't allow it, mostly for economic reasons. Which is probably the reason why they shoehorn single handicappers into a flight with higher handicappers and vice versa. Pack all the flights to the max and they have more available tee times. Makes sense... no? We choose to play on their course, we have to play by their rules. Speaking of Flights, the usual etiquette as I understand is: 3 - 4 balls: May ask to pass slower flights. Slower groups should also give way to them. 2 balls: May ask to pass slower 3 - 4 ball flights, who should also give way to a faster 2 ball flight. 1 ball: No standing whatsoever and may not ask to pass 2 - 4 ball flights. However, if gracious, three or foursomes may allow the single golfer through. Of course this is provided that the holes ahead are clear of golfers.
