| Hi folks,
Couple of questions...
If the hybrid is easier to hit, why aren't more players replacing the 3W with a hybrid?
Thinking of replacing the 3W with a hybrid. So if my 3W is 15 degrees should I: a: Get a 15 degrees hybrid and sacrifice some distance (is the loss of distance true in the first place?) b: Get a 13/14 degrees hybrid? (would this loft make the hybrid as hard to hit as the 15 degrees wood then?)
Thanks.

| I believe it is incorrect to assume that a hybrid is easier to hit than a 3w. Good lie on the fairway, I will hit 3W, good lie in rough I will hit hybrid, bad lie anywhere, I will hit iron. | |

| Hi schulo,
Good points. But may I ask why u use the 3w on a good lie on the fairway?
Is it because it's easier to hit the wood than the hybrid on the fairway?
Or is it because the 3w goes further?

| Wood though a little difficult to handle gives your great distances on the fairway. This excludes the roll it has once it lands. | |

| i use my 3 wood (15deg) to tee off and 3 hybrid (21deg) on fairway...
I have a #1 hybrid, about 15 deg and i notice not many can handle this club...
i would tend to think that hybrid is use to replace long iron like #3 iron and #4 iron, not really meant to replace wood...this is my take for hybrid...

Hi nientsu, yah agreed. So would a less lofted hybrid get the same distance as the 3W then? - golf_snowman wrote:

Hi golf_snowman, ah... so the 1 hybrid is not that easy to hit compared to say a 3 hybrid? I mean there is not much diff hitting a PW and a 8i compared to a 7i and 5i right?

| This one I am not too sure. For me, as long as I can hit the ball with the hybrid and it goes straight, can orede. Topics about hybrid iron or hybrid wood a bit too deep for me | |

| I never had a hybrid and always question myself when the urged of getting one arises. I can hit with my 3 & 5 wood. Do I need a hybrid? | |

| My 3 wood goes -240
3 hybrid that plays like a 2 goes -210
And not all woods are hard to play, just find one that suits your eye

True that, but in short,a wood is supposed to go further than your hybrid

I recently witnessed with my own eyes someone from this forum launch a 3 wood 5 metres forward into the longkang. After a drop, he launched one with the same 3 wood 240 metres uphill with a strong headwind to the back of the green. I was wondering why he was shouting fore at that distance. When I saw the guys on the green react, I realised why. Don't know of any hybrid that can do the same.

| My strategy last time was to use a 15 degree hybrid to hit the 2nd shot, which I have since changed to 3 wood which brings the ball slightly further.
But difficulty wise i think definitely the 3 wood is more challenging.
The 15 degree hybrid is now for sale (See my singature below). Any takers? =)

I might be the odd one here, but I am really struggling with my hybrid. I can hit my long irons so much better than my 4 hybrid. But I do admit that when I get the rare sweet spot strike, the distance whips the irons.

And not all woods are hard to play, just find one that suits your eye you're a hard hitter, and I thougth only prof do this sort of thing. My driver barely plays 220m and here is someone with 240m on a 3 wood. you drive at least 280 meter I take it ?

| I use my 3W mainly for tee off on tight fairways. On fairways, mainly use 3H for long 2nd shots cause v erratic with 3W on fairways.
Recently decided to ditch my 3W for a G20 4W which gives me almost the same distance as 3W but easier to hit and launch.
