Hi all,
Just wondering which one you should be doing first when approaching a shot? Is there any right/wrong as to which goes first?

My process:
1) Using left hand, place club to address position to gauge distance from ball 2) Take up proper stance ( I.e. feet apart, feet parallel to target line, etc) 3) Hold club upright till grip points downwards, and adjust your grip 4) Allow hands to hang down ( club should be inches above actual address position) 5) Bend down from hips to adopt actual position, ensuring back is str8.
I realise when I take time to do that my shots are pretty okay. Again, I'm just a newbie so im happy to learn if my process is wrong

My coach taught me setup then grip. The best example he gave was how I should open my club face, then make sure my grip dun close it again.

Ok so I think you are a setup then grip type. Maybe i Should do a poll survey instead to see whats the preference

In my case, I would seek first my target
and then adjust my body to the target line...alignment
then relax my arms, finger & shoulder before touching the grip.

I never thought about it
I just have a pre shot routine and try to follow it for every shot.

Interesting ... never thought about it as well ... however, i am pretty sure I am a setup (or at least alignment) first then grip guy ... after all, it really does not matter if you hit a perfect shot but you were aiming at the wrong place

Of course there are many routines and the most important thing is to use the same one each time. As for my preference, I believe the whole swing is based around getting the set up correct and the most important feature of this is the grip, in particular the bend in the right arm. Here is footage of RSS Rod Pampling at the Aus PGA. He will always set his grip and right arm bend first and then build his set up around that. I encourage this with all my students!

Forgot to say Happy CNY to All!!!
Anyway, this grip & setup or setup then grip really screwed up my swing in so many ways..
I was also taught to setup then grip but somehow if I do this I tend to end up adjusting my shoulder alignment according to the grip almost always.
Been experimenting with grip and setup for quite a while now and I tend to get better accuracy, but then again I tend to top or hit it really fat somehow when I'm not hitting it right...
kind of learning to swing again for the first time...Arrghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
