| My answer to the above is no! Golf is a game of excellence, which means there is no perfection, and no exceptions... ppl just keep getting better. It is certainly not a game that we can leave it to chance. In fact, it demands a high level of consciousness, such that one is fully aware of why and how he hit a good shot, couple with ones ability to repeat that in different grounds.
The truth is A par is not enough, you want a birdie!! one has to hit it long and accurate, not a either or.. A short hitter with accuracy maintain the high probability of error as he has to hit more shots on varying terrain.
My thoughts are... accuracy can be cured with swing correction. A swing correction often works on the virtue that, regardless of any club that i use.. i have the ability to hit a good shot. With these, the dependency on distance is very much lower, because if my drive is short, i could still land a good wood/hybrid on the green!
However, distance is direct proportional to flexibility. Swing speed =Angle turned(distance)/time. Assuming time is constant, and therefore increasing turned angle equal increasing swing speed. It demands stringent works on flexibility like shoulder and hip turn angle etc.. and as we aged and not maintaining health would certainly decrease these flexibilities. Tom Watson is a good example of having age at 60+ and yet able to sustain a great shoulder turn angle of >90 degree to drive 300yrds(270m)
Therefore to increase distance, my thoughts are to search for ppl like Somax Performance group who has expertise to increase turn angles, something that is not achieve by merely stretching everyday... although it does help a bit!
cheers

| Real life examples, huh? Try getting your ass kicked by an old guy who drove 50 meters behind you! I shot 78 by the way and we were playing scratch. Yes, my own bitter experience throughout the year...

| But with such a limitation in driving distance, it'd be a real accomplishment to be a single handicapper.

| Long drives no longer scare me......those that scare me are those who are so accurate on their approach (120m or lower) pLus able to chip on any lie.
Joined a flight with this uncle at mbgc. Every wedge approach is pin high and most of his chip was max 5 ft from pin. Si bei stress!!!

I dun think its really a limitation. People who drives 210m and still play low scores are people who know which is the area to work on. Driver, maximum 14 shots, putting example is 36 shots. Then you are left with 30 over shots of good iron, fwd and hybrid shots. So you should know better which is the area to work on.

| I agree with Duffy. 210m smack in the center of the fairway. 190m with a 3W 100m with a PW That should clear most of the Par 5s. I'm expecting that with a person of that caliber, his/her iron and FW shots must be pretty darn good. It's not so much the distance but the ability to control the ball and shape shots. That's more critical, if you ask me. While distance gives an advantage, nothing beats the ability to work the irons and wedges | |

Hur??? I dont really understand the relevance of your post ! are u saying to be a single hcp you need to increase tee off distance or ...... flexibilities needed .... also must need birdies ?? P.s. to increase distant we do not need to increase turn angles to achieve distance !

| Fairwind, what you had mentioned is more like a pro requirement. What we talking here is single handicap. | |

| Can drive but cannot arrive is equally bad. I ever played with a 60yrs old Sr caddie. No distance but damn accurate. He consistently scores btwn 75-80, blue tee, any shot within 120m - deadly. Therefore, it's possible. | |

| We r all entitled to our game n our own assessment of the game. I choose to believe that distance n accuracy are both impt. Many ppl says it is how u arrive. To me, it is both.. how i start n how i arrive both equally impt. I believe that makes me a better n stronger golfer. My journey to be my single handicapper. Single handicap is just a grade. Regardless of opinions, assessment... Ultimately let's just enjoy the game. Thank you for your pointers n feedback. | |

| Now that makes more sense bro...
Actually no one is saying distance is totally irrelevant......., but anyways. Enjoy your game and best of luck in becoming a single!
