Golf Bet: Cut Throat....WTF is tat?

any kind soul can help me to share WTF is 'cut throat' betting?

Poor me....my idol #5 'challenge' me to $50 cut throat.....and I blur blur....cannot respond to the challenge le

Does it mean $50 for every hole? Or $50 for every stroke difference?

Cut Throat is a fun diversion on slow days at the golf course. It is played on the tee box while you’re waiting for the group ahead of you to move out of range.In Cut Throat, each member of your group places a golf ball on the ground near the tee marker on one side of the tee box. Using the club you’ll be teeing off with, the object is to knock your ball across the tee box, hitting the far tee marker; then back to the side you started on, hitting that tee marker; then take aim at your partners’ golf balls, eliminating them by hitting their golf balls with yours.

If you hit the target with your first try, you immediately go again, and keep going until you miss. If you miss with your first try, the next member of the group goes, and so on, alternating turns.

If a golf ball goes off the tee box, that player has two turns to get back onto the tee box or he is eliminated.

The first time during a round that Cut Throat is played, flip a tee to determine playing order. After that, the first person eliminated on the previous tee box goes first; the previous winner goes last.

Just be sure when playing Cut Throat that you don’t get so involved in the game that you lose track of time, and start holding up the group behind yours.

did a quick search on google and that is what I came up with. Seems like a game to kill time on the tee box on slow rounds.

Not sure if that is what the op's friend was thinking of. But all of my searches on the internet have given me the same answer for this game and this is the description.

Er...no.

The local version is that the flight has everyone playing against each other. Akin to matchplay.

So the amount is per hole depending on what was agreed upon.

Ah...good to know thanks for the info just in case I get into a game of cut throat I won't make a fool of myself and start banging balls around on the tee box and demand my 50 spot...

You can bet match play either in partnership, or everyone bets against each other.

In partnership (say Player A partner Player B, against C&D), it can be better ball (better score of A and B against better score of C&D) , or total score (sum of scores of the partners against the other side), or high-low (lower score of one partnership against lower score of the other side, but when there is a tie, the higher scores are compared to decide winner).

But when everyone is betting against each other, it's called cut throat.

You can play partnership as well as cut throat at the same time. That's when real cut throat comes in.

Maybe I should ask my idol #5 if can simplify it...say 50/50....

Still have to depend on the stakes....

To keep it simple.

Just record your scores.

Do a 1 v 1 matchplay count at the end of 18 holes with all your 3 other flightmates one score at a time.

So technically, if you are the worst score among the 4 on a given hole, you will be down $$ x 3 for that hole la.
