the only thing consistent is that i can throw it 20 metres when i chose to let go the club during mid-swing...

I guess I can hit past 150 on 7i too.. but I cannot say I'm at all accurate! In fact, its all over the place! Now working on accuracy.. but distance drop back to abt 120. So perhaps there are plenty 'normal/short' hitters quietly watching this thread.. but they could be deadly accurate!

my head keep lifting up when down swing.. some time can keep still, some time cannot. I'm a newbie golfer too, but I think the best way is to find a pro to correct ur swing, even a relaxed, correctly executed swing can bring ur ball further den 100m, scoop or not. Head movement I have plenty too, but that, you just practice and watch urself on video (mirror also can) to be aware of what and how you are moving. My head movement was caused by 2 problems. 1st, I did not keep my chin high enough (common problem for many) and thus during the upswing, my chin gets into my shoulder's way and that lifted my head. 2nd problem was I look up after hitting the ball too fast (want to see the ball 'fly' lah), thus lifting my head too early. Now I only look up after my right shoulder touches my chin. A lot of such problems are caused by us (newbies) wanting to 'hit' the ball hard (in pursuit of 'distance').. this usually screw up our swings and we start to develop bad habits. My 2 newbie cents.

- This Thread is a juicy read and very thought provoking! Just wanna seek some clarification from some of the folks here.
When a person found a technique to hit the ball further and wrote about his distance, which, in Lee's case, is quite long compared to some folks here, he gets negative comments. Let's look at it from a different perspective, using a training aid that is POSITIVELY AND HIGHLY recommended through this forum:
TOURSTRIKER
For those who have bought it, please help enlighten me.
1. Why did you buy it in the first place? 2. Did you practice with it on a CONSISTENT BASIS? 3. If you did, did your distance improve? Did your overall ball striking improve? 4. If you didn't, why did you stop practicing with it?
Did a little research through this forum by searching "Tourstriker"
Folks who have owned it were:
Khokar, Pushslice, supermaninunder, JonL_TK, eiji, TourSwing (I gain 10-15m across the bag thanks to this great product), slinger, Slicer51..... just to name a few.
The thread link:
http://www.golfrepublic.org/t12449-tourstriker?highlight=tourstriker Go to Page 2.... Kian commented and pasted a trackman read of 159.9m carry on a 7i tourstriker hit by his "shifu" Who is it ah?
Well, from what I understand, the tourstriker teaches the golfer to deloft the club to gain better contact and thus a longer distance.
What that means is if you are not hitting your 7 iron 159.9m or more, you can still do it by LEARNING how to swing and deloft your club MORE EFFICIENTLY, which I believe Lee has done.
He took the effort to study and learn and apply this, which explains why he confidently says that his MP52 9i can achieve 150m carry.
It is possible.
It is possible if you do it correctly and put in the time in practicing the correct technique.
I know for a fact that Lee goes to the range on a daily basis, hitting at least 300 to 500 balls a day. He works hard on his swing. In fact, I KNOW for a fact that he is the hardest working golfer that I know. He puts in the effort.
Please bear in mind that a good swing that produces long distances does not directly correlate to low scores. Shooting low scores depends on a lot of facets of the golf game, which encompasses some areas which Lee may not be good at.
Bottomline, if you are only hitting 110m with a 7 iron and shooting in the 80s and am happy with it, GREAT!
If you are not happy and want to increase your distance, understand the correct technique and practice hard! I am sure that achieving Lee's distance is easily attainable!
It is your choice.
Very nice post and comments from you bro Denmeister. Thank you.

- I'm with Lee on this one. It is possible and I have experienced a big increase in distance without increasing my strength or flexibility. Its called using lag and compression. Also this results in delofting the club. I guarantee the guys who hit it short have decent speed but don't know what it feels like to compress a ball. Video your swing, get on trackman and check your path and angle of attack and launch angle. It would be safe to say you short hitters have a high launch and out to in swing. My son who is 12 can hit his 7 iron 135. He is not strong or fast but he knows how to lag it and compress the ball.
Very cool feedback, Yeoyc. For those who study the swing and the dynamics of compression, your post has many clues on what's involved. Nicely done. Thanks.

| This thread, after the initial hubbub, is turning out nicely, containing a lot of input from many. Some of the longer hitters are also participating, admitting they hit the irons longer than most, which is nice. It shows what's possible among us mortals, not just those on tour.
I wanted to change some mindset, to break the distance glass ceiling that seems to stop the progress of some. And especially to point out the perils of flipping.
In relation to the WITB of the pros and the posted distances, here's an interesting contrast in Tiger's own words.
Prior to the start of the Deutsche Bank Championship, Tiger Woods was asked his opinion on a reduced-flight sphere. Acknowledging he had heard about the USGA's recent test with Canadian Tour players using a ball with a governor on it, Woods said, "The guys are hitting [current model balls] a long way. Last week, No. 8 was a par-3 down the hill, playing 207 the last day, and I hit 7-iron. I don't ever hit 7-iron that far. Dustin Johnson hit 9-iron. I can understand them wanting to pull the game back a bit because the guys are just becoming more athletic. Here I am, 6-foot, and I'm considered short. Most of the guys now are 6-3, 6-2, 6-4."

Folks,
Bill Haas states 145 yards and Adam Scott 150 yards for their 9 irons as the average.
But they can certainly crank it up if they want to.
In that story above, 207 yards is 189 meters, Tiger took 7 iron. Dustin Johnson took 9 iron...
7 iron for 189 meters, I already tabik. But, 9 iron?
Lets wrap our minds around that for a moment. 189 meters. 9 iron. We know DJ is tall, but still.... how is that possible?
For keen students of the swing, one can find the answer by studying Dustin's impact.
So... in contrast, 9 iron 150m is not so extreme, right? After all, that's 39m behind DJ, who hits it a whopping 26% further.
Thanks for reading and posting.
Cheers. | |

when you give a man enough rope, he will.........
let me just summarise...
1. here's a man in his 40s who profess to shoot in the 80s and 90s, then shot 103 in the face of someone who knows someone. he also has a video of himself with elements of a "famous" swing incorporated in a before and after diagram (which incidentally appeared to be the same finishing to me) 2. he will not rather rely on his trusty MP52 to shoot lower score but talks about the hand of god lowering his score by 10 strokes 3. then he went on to articulate how he carry 150m with crappy balls and a 9 iron (supported by his coach's range finder who shows it was slighter longer than 150 m). PS Trackman chart have shown that the average PGA pros whose carry distance is 269 yards can only carry it 150 yards or 135 meters 4. i really don't care if one can shoot his SW 150 meters but i will be impressed if he or she improve month-by-month with a clear objective in mind
finally Lee, get a life, go out and play golf and do not live your life telling tall tales on golf forums.
DGman
added afterwards...go get a handicap as well.
Since that other thread was locked after DGman gave me the honour of rare post addressed to me, allow me to comment here. Ai yah, DGman, very easy la. The thread is 7 iron distance. Not what scores I shoot. That only came up because someone asked, so I answered honestly. Including the 103 which I posted (no need to go into which muscle I pulled on the 3rd hole, that's too much of an excuse, I shot 103 on that day, and that's that.) Then some choose to doubt whether I can shoot 80s or 90s or not. Very easy to sort out. "Someone" who knows "someone", both quite active on this forum, were there when I shot 80s as well, using the clubs you may not like, made by 'hands of god.' No need for me to name them, unless they want to come forward. Both have posted on this thread already. I am honoured you viewed my video. If you can't see the difference, that's ok too. After all, you are a clubfitter, and from what I hear, a darn good one. My lowest scores were actually w the Miuras, not the MP52s. So was the recent eagle I managed to get. So, logical that I should stick with what works. Enough OT, more to the topic of this thread, carrying 150 w 9, some have come forth in this thread saying it is possible, not just me. Trackman chart, well... I just posted above what is possible when the pros crank it up, in Tiger's own words. 150 is certainly not my 'normal' distance. But certainly possible when distance is the objective. Improvement, those who play with me regularly recently, and pay me at the end of the round, including 14 handicappers, on the local golf forum, can attest whether I am improving or not. What I do, and who I am is not important. It's not the bearer. It's the message. Distance is possible, much further than the accepted norm around here, if we know where to look. This point is sometimes lost as the doubters choose to focus and 'cast doubt' on the message bearer, so worth repeating. And finally, I have a nice life, which I appreciate, and yes, golf is a nice part of it but certainly not all of it. Those who know me will confirm, I am meticulous about my facts, including shoot 103. So, kindly do not lump me together with 'tall tales' tellers. You have a nice forum here. I appreciate the avenue to voice my thoughts. Thank you for having me.

After reading the above statement , although 100% true, I feel I must voice the following ... Threads like these have me worried for us amateurs ... the mindset ... this is not a long drive competition ... one may make a "mines bigger than yours" statement by hitting the highest lofted iron in the flight ... but ultimately its about getting the ball into the hole ... hit it closer , to give yourself a better chance to sink the put ... lower score and more $$$ ... The only point isn't how far you "can" hit it ... its also how far you can hit it "accurately" with "consistency"! The less dispersion, the better a player can be and usually is! A (reasonably) delofted club does a lot of good things and its primary goal is NOT to gain more distance! Its to get better & crisper contact irrespective of lie, with a penetrating ball flight ... hence accuracy and consistency in any conditions!!! e.g. the same distances with no ballooning of ball in the wind, no duffs , tops etc ... but more of the same every single time! An amateur should work towards better impact conditions to improve their golf game and lower their scores ... they should seek help from a coach ... or they should absorb (with a filter) the wealth of information that is available on the net or books etc Everybody ... keep your pants zipped up ... and keep the real goal in mind ...
