How much to change golf grips?

Haven't been golfing for a while and just realised that the grips on the clubs have started peeling off.

Can anyone advise how much it will cost to replace grips for 6-9i, PW and SW.
What brands are good? (My clubs are not very high-end so don't need super duper grips.)
Just a rough price range will do so I will not kena 'chopped'.

I think a decent Golf Pride grip change will set you back abt $12/pc [+/-](incl. installation).

you can go to far east shopping centre (lev 2) or Big Fish Golf located in Bukit Merah..

Thanks everyone for your responses. I called some of the shops in FESC and they did'nt have the colour I wanted.

So I ended up going to Bob's and got Golf Pride in purple. I love them. Going to try them at the range tonite! Woohoo!

I tried the Golf pride multi compound grip.. loved it.. $15/- per grip..

I'm guessing that there would be (perhaps Chinese brands etc) but they may not be available locally.

changing golf grips are like changing tire...

first you have the cost of the grip but a lot of people do not realize that the tapes and grip tape activator can be costly too.

i have seen some grips which was installed with normal double sided tape and activated with petrol as a solvent. the result is first the smell and second the grip will loosen when you the temperature hits over 45 degrees (when you leave it in the car booth). Worse of all, the petrol will destroy the air pockets in most golf pride grips.

At BFG we use Brampton Grip Rite adhesive tape, that do not melt under hot conditions and we use only Brampton grip activator which is a water based, non toxic product and odourless grip solvent. It only explains why you are able to hit balls after the first 1 hour using these gripping products.

Also it will help a great deal if the person who is installing the grips can advise you on proper grip sizing and the right product for your preference.

Like changing tires, proper installation is as important as finding the right thread for your driving habits.

DGman, what is the best way to keep the SW if change from a regular to midsize grips?

most standard grips are 15 to 20g grams lighter than the midsize. meaning if the standard GP MC is 46g, the midsize is in the low 60g range.

one way is to lengthen the club by 1/4 inch to give it a 1.5 shift in SW or the next thing to do is to add weight down the hosel which may be quite significant. 20 g weight shift to the butt will mean you have to add 8g to the clubhead to maintain the same SW.

however if its for long irons, the total weight in most cases will take care of the shift in SW. Meaning if you have a current 5 iron at say D3 SW and when you shift to a MS it will weight in at C9. however the total weight of the club will be increase by 20g. In most cases the extra 20g will give you about the same effect as a D3 SW. Most golfers will tell you that they feel the club is more one piece after this change.

there are techniques to switch golfers mindset from SW to total weight feel and if they understand and shift their mindset, SW is not as important as total weight of the club.

So I guess it may not be necessary to keep the same SW as long as we can get used to the new weight

yup...except for wedges that is.....wedges tends to need a different trigger point so the SW is still an important factor.

Wow. this is a really confusing thread...

1. You usually get what you pay for.
2. Grips are like car tires. they all work the same, but prices vary drastically.
3. Cheaper isnt always better. But more expensive doesnt mean better either. (isnt life funny that way?)
4. And they dont last a life time, grips or tires... An annual changing of grips is a good idea. When there are sparks coming off your car tires. its a good idea to start thinking about changing tires as well.

What DGman is eluding to is that it is possible to get all the clubs feeling similar. ie: if you swing the clubs with your eyes closed. You cant distinctively tell the difference. This is a mathematical certainty. Dont read too much into it thou... Really! there is a lot more to it... And I am certain that most people dont want to go downt his path. FYI: SW is Swing Weight abbreviated. Like PIE is short for Please Insult Everyone and CTE means Certain Thoughts Excite.

Ironically. my misadventure into golf started in a very similar manner to this thread:

changing golf grips is like giving new life to your clubs and your gloves..... I think i changing mine later.... my golf clubs' christmas present. Everyone gets one new one.. so they wont quarrel and kink each other in the bag...
