Failing to read the local rules sheet cost PGA Tour golfer Ryuji Imada a whopping 26 penalty strokes at a tournament in China on Saturday, GolfChannel.com reported.
Imada's 26-shot penalty came as a result of players being allowed to lift, clean and place their balls due to soft conditions on the Blackstone course. think about it, if that happen, I mite just have the chance to win him.....hahahahahahah!!! (just kidding)

| Similar thing today, I was caddying at Sentosa, one of the players for some reason thought it was lift clean and place.. he was 1 under, till his partner noticed...
After penalties he just withdrew....
2 under was in a playoff... how would you feel............

| This reminds me about the Valderama tournament in golf channel, Graeme Mcdowell hits a long shot on a par 4 and it is over the green landed on the rough next to the scaffold erected stand. The players know that its a free lift but still he insisted the referee to come by for consultation.
I guess, it pays to be careful.

| Yep, the classic is many moons ago in Oz, Greg Norman gave Sergio a ruling and it was wrong... Sergio was DQ......
Playing for lots of cash always make sure the ruling is correct!

| SH, I remember all the pros lift and clean their balls at Sentosa (last year Singapore Open). It was PM rounds.
Does Sentosa effect this local rule (winter rule?) for Spore Open as an exception?

| It really depends on the Tournament Director... (and weather of course)...
But If they think it will rain they may state Lift and clean, because you cannot do it after half the field has teed off, it must be same for everyone...
I think last year it was a "just in case" precaution...
But it is not Sentosa's call, there is usually one man/woman in charge (from Asian or European Tour) and it is their call... and I dont envy their job.....

| Stupid question but how does something like that trigger a 26-stroke penalty? | |

When you do it 13 times? No one penalizes them the first time?

When you do it 13 times? No one penalizes them the first time? Maybe he was only alerted after he picked up on the 14th attempt? Could be a whole host of reasons..
