| Dear all,
It is with great sadness that I am writing this post. This forum has slowly became one that I would NOT have joined if I have stumbled upon. I can tell you why.
1. Bashing of members - I guess everyone has to deal with disagreements. But we can all disagree agreeably. Many times the disagreement had degraded into name callings and personal attacks with vulgarities thrown in. Such actions are really uncalled for.
2. Obsessive use of vulgarities - I don't know why there are posts where ppl talk about missing the good old times when they can start swearing. I used a lot of swear word when I was very young, 15 years old to be exact. Back then I decided to kick that bad habit and I am proud to have done that since as swearing is not 'cool' at all. Especially in front of the ladies and young children. You may not share my enthusiasm for kicking that habit but at least refrain from that as we are in public and there are many lovely ladies and perhaps some youngsters around. Can't we at least control ourselves a bit to preserve some modesty? I already closed an eye to your %^$%^#$ for teasing each other in the forum, do you really have to cross that line so far to achieve your happiness?
This forum is not free. There are running cost for hosting as we choose not to put advertisements. There are also cost for maintaining the domain name. Beside these, there are also countless hours that we spent customising the forum, setting up the fan site and other features of the forum. Our moderators are also volunteers. Yes, there have been offer of sponsorship but we declined as we want to keep this an open forum where everyone can come in and post and not to be restricted by the sponsors. Yet, there are members who want to run it like they are the sponsors and are driving away other members.
It is as if our hardwork is not appreciated at all. missmoon might have told some ppl that for a while, I actually thought of shutting it down. Honestly, had it not be my own forum, I wouldn't have log in now.
Looking at all those bashing threads just make me fed-up. Looking at all those members leaving and their sympathisers telling other forumers maybe they should be at someone else's forum just make me feel sad.
Before you post next time, please spare a thought for us. We have a day job and this forum is not part of it. I have spent time cleaning up threads when I should be resting, out with my family or doing my proper work. missmoon had also had sleepless nights cos of all these postings. We are tired....very tired. Perhaps more mentally rather than physically.
The forum is our baby. We had great joy watching it take its first step, achieve all the various milestones. But sadly, the world had been unkind to him. If this continue, I would really have no choice left but to take our baby away from the world who had not treated him with the love that we had given.

| Dear Sunny, Do not let this get to you. Way back in the 90s I too was affected when doing my moderating job.( I even get pm/s cursing my father/mother/family ) I am no longer affected ( I still mod occassionally ). I spend less time doing this and more time with my family, business and good friends. Cheers to your team's good work. | |

| All of us, I guess, go through a growing up process… a open forum like this sometimes allow the small kid inside us to come out in free expression… don’t be disheartened, I trust all those here appreciate your efforts in providing this avenue for us to get together through the beautiful and frustrating game of Golf.. Its like a growing up process we all have to go through..
Just see what Singapore has gone through since independence… there were many problems initially and seems insurmountable.. but the people gel and stick through it through thick and thin behind a strong leader and it emerged stronger than ever.. Things will get better. I trust it will…

| Hey Sunny, I know how you feel. I've had my fair share of moderating too. I've also been a SU on large-scale talkers where people are exceedingly vocal about their grouses. Whichever the case, I took it (as you did) in stride and accept that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and we should focus on the bigger goal of running a "platform" in which people can voice their thoughts, share their experiences and make friends. Believe you me, it's a rewarding experience Already, in the short time I've been here, I've played and met up with several of our forummers, all of whom I've got a lot of respect for. People appreciate the forum as a means to meeting new golfers and it also helps promote the game Do not focus on the mindless bickering. Instead, remember that the baby is taking its infant steps and like every child, will be prone to bumps and bruises. But it is through adversity like this does the child mature to a young adult. It's part of the growing-up process, and everyone goes through it. | |

| i felt the same as sunny too.... hope tht's no more bashing ard... not so good la...all of us have the freedom of speech, others have the freedom to choose to agree or disagree but no bashing pls. cursing n swearing would be better if we can control, i mean the teasing part. coz i ever encounter something small or insignificant will grow out of proportion once it gets outa hand. let's this place continue to be free, friendly, useful and free of bad things unlike other forums. Remember this is GR, our home... | |

and i bet there is a lot more pple out there who do likewise too...
bottomline, there must be something (good) here that generates such a behaviour.
so, the only question is what you are going to do with the "goodness" and the rest of the pple who look to this forum as a virtual "home". it is just impossible to please everybody FULL STOP.
nothing is lost, until you lost it.

| MM, I'm really embarassed because as far as I know, that particular blog entry (with only a single post) doesn't generate traffic at all. I was testing out whether blogger can help to direct search traffic. | |

Dear Sunny and Moon, Firstly, if i have created any trouble for both of you, i sincerely apologised for that and my intentions was not that in the first place. And yes, I focus my attention on a certain person because I am just not satisfied with the explananations. And eventually, things got out of hand. But rest assure, all this is just me and got nothing to do with my bros here. They are just like me, golf enthusiast and thats why sometimes we got a bit personal, trying to protect the other people here from getting the wrong information. Nevertheless, I think both of you are doing a good job and if someone have doubts about that, then I wll action on them again. (Just Joking). I promise to be a good boy from now on and please let me know if you need help just like as in the charity game, I am always willing to help out whenever i can. And once again, sorry for my actions lah, especially last night activities.

| Well, even in a family, there is sometimes the argument here and there... as in all open forum, there is always the disagreement... and i think that's when the Mod come in to control it before it grew out of hand...
Sometimes, there is a old saying...bu ta bu xiang si...no fight no know each other...
But as long as it is out of good will, think no damge done..
Too much control also no so good for the forum as most pple come into the forum to learn a thing or two and sometimes to unwind abit... so moderation will be better...
But all forumers will have to take into account that this forum do involve ladies and kids..so control of language will be good for everyone..hehehe..
all those bengs ( including myself), make use of this forum to improve our langauage
all those Gentleman , pls continue to be gentleman but let loose a little bit..
Life is already so stressful and short..dun need another outlet to be so stressful..
Let's make this little GR, a wonderul place to call Virtual Home and it's where I belong...

| Hi Sunny and moon,
Irregardless of what happen in the past few days, we want you to know that we do appreciate the effort that both of you have put in and you have done a fantastic job. Without both of you, i dun think we would have a forum to call home and it would be impossible to meet all the fantastic people out there.
Meanwhile, we also want you to know that all of us have the interest of the forum to our heart and in fact many of us treat the forum like our baby as well. We want to watch it grow, flourish and become a forum that truly brings people of all kinds, race or religion together to play the wonderful game call golf. Let us put this episode behind us and work hand in hand to make GR the best golf forum in Singapore:)

I did: "In regard (ha!) to regardless/"irregardless", let's delineate the equation once more: ir + regardless = not + despite everything. Wait, adding the ir- prefix puts a negative in front of an already negative word? Isn't that considered a double-negative? Wouldn't that make the definition of "irregardless" with regard? Is this why ears bleed whenever "irregardless" is muttered?"

| Ah this abomination word has caused me lots of debates as well. Merriam-Webster condemned it but surprise surprise... Oxford actually accepts it: probably a blend of IRRESPECTIVE and REGARDLESS.Cambridge as well: without attention to, or despite the conditions or situationSuffice to say that this word can be used in the informal chit chat but not in formal occassion such as public speaking... otherwise I will be the first to throw the rotten tomatoes | |
