I am going for my first overseas gold game in Oct via air, besides the travel bag so that I can lock my clubs... May I know is there any do and don't and what gear should I bring along?

I hope seniors and guru can advise me on this.

I know some golfers who actually tot of bringing their 2nd choice clubs for overseas games. My 2cents, if the overseas games are in some prime area ie to me is like Mission , Bintan, etc etc....I will actually recommend to bring your best set...

the whole point is to give one self to play ones best especially for those overseas games at prime course.

Do remember to get some form of insurance be it travel or golf for your trip.

Bring enough balls too, and always, always remember to padlock your golf travel bags when checking in.

If going Australia, do make sure your golf shoes (the bottom) are free from mud.

Bon Voyage!

daren26, I prefer to keep my bag as light as possible so I bring my lightest stand bag along. Protect your clubs with individual head covers so they won't knock against each other when the baggage handlers chucks your bag around. Besides the individual head and iron covers, I further tuck my irons inside one of the japanese iron covers that have a drawstring. Double protection.

Balls I just bring enough or a little less for the rounds I play, if I need more, I buy there. Thailand especially can get tons of cheap balls. Balls are the second heaviest addition to your golf bag. I used to bring more than needed, not so bad last time when golf bags weren't weighed on checking in, which they now are. Too heavy and you pay excess, meaning you won't have much room for shopping.

Your travel bag should also strike a good balance between protection and light weight. Never use one of those all fabric ones that allow your golf bag's handle to slip through. They're only good for a day trip to Bintan or Batam.

Bring at least two pairs of gloves and it'd be good if one of them is a rain glove just in case.

Umbrella, bring cheap and light one but full sized of course.

And I remove all collectors tags or towels so they won't be lost or stolen. For me at least, it really bugs me when I lose one of those, and I don't want that weighing on my mind if one mysteriously disappears on my trip.

Lock your travel bag with a good lock, although that I have found is practically useless. Baggage handlers know all the tricks. And I've been shown how to open up a locked zippered bag in just five seconds with just a cheap pen, and then close up the zips again so no one is the wiser. Alarming!

A good travel bag can be very useful and less heartbreaking when all clubs arrived safe and sound back home after the return flight.

I have always been carrying my first choice set of clubs around. 2 to 7 hours flights are standards.

I still carry my 9.5inch cart bag cos I find it more sturdy then standbags.

Also, after 3 travel bags torn and broken, I have learnt to trust the Ogio STraightjacket. Highly recommended to me by Birdman, and I swear by it after 2 months! Smile

You'll probably remember all the big items ("Where's my favorite wedge???") and the folks above have given you lots and lots of great ideas to make sure all goes well.

My 2 cents is a small plastic bottle/tube of bug repellent, a few full size bandaids and a little tube of general topical antiseptic. Nothing worse than a new "blister" to ruin a decent vacation.

PS: Don't go cheap on bringing enough tees. sure they are cheap but try buying some at a course at $5.00 for half a dozen plastic junk tees because that's all they have available on the day you need some.

Have a great time!!

Aloha, KT

One small advice, on my first trip out, I came back with itch on my lower legs... i reckon that was coz of irritants from the grass. Bug repellent before the game and soothing moisturiser after the game should be useful.

Have a good game!
