Look out for Brett Bridgman, Marc Kawasoe & Brad McManus from Phil Brew Academy. I know them personally and Brett was my coach for a few months. For me, Brett is really good, encouraging and patient. From what I know. Brett has created a dedicated LADIES only golf package. As mentioned, there are quite a few here learning from all these 3 guys in this forum.

yes, that was my mindset as well Why pay for a coach when I can learn from books, youtube, friends' advice, etc. Picked up all kinds of stupid bad habits over the years, one band aid over another. Took me a good 1.5 years to unlearn most of the bad habits i picked up in the first 1.5 years of 'learning' golf from everyone else except a proper coach. Now I understand why coaches teach some drills that seemed pointless in the beginning. e.g. BHSG in Dubai's kids programme has them running around, sprinting, tossing rugby balls, etc. I wondered that was all about, and later found out it has to do with development of fast-twitch muscles, learning to rotate the upper body while keeping the lower body stable, etc, all fundamentals to a proper golf swing. Simple motto - if you want to do something, do it right, or don't do it at all. Why spend hundreds of dollars on equipment and cheap out on the most important part of the game at this phase - the swing. Better to get a simple set and develop a decent swing.

| To some point yes. But you need to know what to look out for.
When my swing goes funny these days, I can more of less self-diagnose and fix it, but I don't get stubborn about it, and see a coach if I find myself 'fixing' it by changing fundamentals such as grip, alignment, posture, swing plane, etc. But to be able to do that, I need to already know what the fundamentals are.
When I had my earlier swing, I was able to get to low-90s and stagnated there for years. Couldn't get more distance (which was short anyway), had a persistent fade/push/slice/snap hook. Later (i.e. 18 months ago) realized that I won't be able to go into 80s if I don't have a proper swing. Like you, it worked for me then, and felt good that I was 'figuring things out on my own', but when my friends started to shoot lower scores than me while i stagnated, introducing quick fixes that worked for one day/week and screwed up my swing even more over the months, i decided that enough was enough. I can feel as 'satisfied' as I want to be about how smart I am to fix my swing, but true satisfaction comes from playing the game well, and I don't know anyone who plays well without sound fundamentals.
I've seen mid-handicappers who hit the ball decently without proper shoulder turn, or knees bent big time (almost squatting), and when I ask, I find out that they've been mid-handicappers for years without improvement, or that they've just only recently become mid-handicappers after being high-handicappers for decades.

- haha Yeah Sounds good. I went to laguna website to check out. I don't really understand the beginner lesson package though. It's like 6 lesson only and it's more pricey than the one at nsrcc taught by brett. Guess I have to call and enquiry
best to contact shorthitter personally... just look for his nick It's just six lessons, but focuses on the core basics of the game. You'll need plenty of practices in between each lesson as you learn new things every lesson, and Shorthitter is flexible with the timing, so that means you get to (and you should) practice before the next lesson rather than chiong 1 lesson after another every week. The range membership comes in useful since you'll be doing plenty of practice, its one of the places with the cheapest balls during peak hours (that's usually the only time I can go anyway).

- Hi,
I have a group of 4 girls looking for beginner golf lessons. I really need some recommendation for a good coach. Would appreciate if anyone could offer some help here! (:
Thanks! (:
Sheenz Go green fairway, Lee Harington. She is a gd coach. $$ wise, not too sure. Usually cheaper for group. Seconded for Lee Carrington. Been with her for last few months and definitely have improved, but still SCSC. Her rates are not cheap, but worth every penny when she puts you on video. Her rate currently is at $495 (b4 GST) for 8 30-min lessons. Not sure of the pricing for group, but you can call her at 9798 5858 to enquire.
