| Hello,
I encountered down slope lie on many occasions but do not know how to play it.
If down slope lie is in a semi rough and 150m to pin, do you aim left of the target? Assume there is no wind.
Thanks. | |

| OK, if not going for the green then should take aim towards the left of pin? | |

| hmm... does your down slope lie mean a) when you address the ball, its below your feet and is farther from you than normal lie, or b) that the ground is sloping downwards towards the green, but ball is more or less level with your feet as you address it?
for both situations, i would concentrate on different things... for a) like you said, i'd aim left, bend knees a bit more, and do only half swing for b) i actually concentrate on keeping my shoulders parallel to the ground, i.e. if ground is sloping down towards the green, my left shoulder is lower than my right shoulder (i right handed), but still aim centre.
those are my own swing reminders i give myself (but i not coach), so use at your own peril!

| It all depends on how bad the lie is. Sometimes the lie on the rough is still better than that of the fairway. I do not know about you, but normally, when attacking the greens, I will try to avoid the hazards around the green and so, I will aim for the biggest part of the green. If the downslope lie and not much hazards, then i will just aim left and go for it. | |

knn, only u want to avoid the hazards around the green loh....... anyway, tis coming fri, u wont have uphill or downhill lie at kranji, but must warn u, theres lot of sand divots on the fairway (my buggy got many many sand bottles), so maybe u can show me how to impact the ball on such lie.....

| Basically, the description must be accurate la. 1 - Downslope - Slope downwards towards the direction of the green 2 - UpSlope - Slope upwards towards the green 3 - Ball below feet 4 - Ball above feet All cases, the rule of thumb is to take more club and swing easy. Doesn't mean you cannot hit the green shd you encounter such lies. You just have to know how the ball reacts thats all. Play Keppel or Semb CC more. You rarely have a flat lie and you will be forced to learn how to deal with such situations. | |

| Picture paints a thousand words. So...those who have pics are in a better position to illustrate then try and explain it here. If you swing it easy, the ball will curve less. Take more club since u swing it easy. Aim left aim right very subjective to the different conditons of the lie of your ball cos if u are in the rough, your clubface might snag in the long grass and it causes u to pull it further left than you aimed...etc So...best is to check on youtube. | |

| Maybe i can give my defination of 'swing easy'
normally to me, if the lie is in a akward position, i will take my backside in a steeper swing plane, more wrist movement. this is becos of the lie and position of your body, u cant take the normal swing plane.
i will then try to punch into the ball so that i can control the follow through.
thats how i normally play it.
addressing your postion of the ball is the same as what the other guys have mentioned in the earlier post.
