Forget abt filters, it wont get u very far. Not worth the $$ spend.
Consider 50mm with extention tubes or macro 105mm for a start.

Then again, depending on yr subject interest.
if doing insects, they will not be too helpful too.

Nikon produce the world best macro lens ... 200mm f4.
try it if you have the chance. you will love it!

Cheers!

Thanks travelsnapper. I am a beginner, thought of buying filter just to test out.
How much will this set up cost?

IMHO, Nikon's images tend to be a tad sharper than that of Canon (I'm a FAN of CANON!).

Anyway, during a recent trip to Japan, was trying to capture macro of some wild flowers I found on the hillside. But damn... the wind was too strong and I had difficulty with my 100mm macro lens.

Alright, alright ... most prob it's the woman behind the camera bah!?

I had to give up and use a PnS instead. Nowadays, PnS can be really powerful, you know!? Very Happy

Hmm.. i not too sure abt pricing.. i would think
50mm + extension tubes should cost less than $400
the 105mm will set u back by abt S$ 1200/- for nikon.

I used to own a sigma 105mm, it cost me abt S$ 600/- abt 5 years ago.
it's a very good lens too. so you migh want to consider this option
