clubsnap.com is a good resource, you should probably attend some intermediate lessons conducted by professionals. Books also a good resource, its a lot of creative expression once you get the hang of the basics.

i can share some things i learnt, but i am not really that good, i am sure there are a few professionals or even enthusiasts in our mix

this was one of my favorites, took this while freezing in the strong San Francisco winds. time of the shot was around 10pm, so it was really dark, had to use a gorilla pod and played with shutter time to get the right exposure.

in photography (IMHO) you are your own mentor... your work belongs only to you. creativity cannot be taught... it is build in (eg... like TW in golf) LOL

sometime... what you see may not be visible by other

Some of my favorite photos. Like what Eiji said, you have to do trial and error, especially the part of the shutter speed and apperture.

Daveaha....not bad, not bad....can be my mentor leow!
For a start you need a mentor to guide you what is a good shot, what is not.
What is a correct exposure, how sharp is sharp etc.....
Just like golf, we need to have the basic principle right, the rest is up to individual styles and physical make ups.

So Ejii and Dave shall be my mentor?

This was a Macro shot taken with G10.
I like it, but felt is was not sharp enough.
Can I have your comments?

macro and landscape very different. But whats important for pictures is composition, what are you trying to say or draw attention to. In a macro photo, composition and background is important, the main subject has to be frame properly, with the right background to bring the most out of the main subject. I think your shot has too distracting a background, with partial leaves, and sky as a backdrop, might be better framed if you had just use the sky or the leaves.

This my opinion though, with a G10 lense, there's a limit to how wide you can open your aperture and how close you can get assuming you didn't get the macro converter.

Hi there, may I know from which part of MBGC did you take the shot? We are not allowed to step onto the green when not playing so where else?

I'm not worthy to be your mentor.... seriously. I haven't touch that camera of mine for the last... 4 years. Now I'm just too lazy to play around with all the settings, and opting to use my point and shoot ixus cam Very Happy

But then... looking at this thread... makes me want to invest in four third camera again... $$$$$ againnn

I don't use Nikon, but i have heard good things about the 60mm macro lens, take note its lens and not filter. I have always been a Canon guy, I just prefer their color tones.

Forget abt filters, it wont get u very far. Not worth the $$ spend.
Consider 50mm with extention tubes or macro 105mm for a start.

Then again, depending on yr subject interest.
if doing insects, they will not be too helpful too.

Nikon produce the world best macro lens ... 200mm f4.
try it if you have the chance. you will love it!

Cheers!
