| Louis Oosthuizen Captures Open Championship Relying Upon Titleist Pro V1x.
To win on golf’s grandest stage takes a world of talent, a complete performance and total trust in your game and in your golf ball. At this year’s Open Championship, Louis Oosthuizen earned his first career major title trusting the Titleist Pro V1x on every shot, finishing seven strokes clear of his nearest competitor and a world-class field at the Home of Golf, St. Andrews, Scotland.
Oosthuizen closed with a 1-under par 71 en route to a 16-under 272 total in a victory so convincing that he took the lead midway through the second round and led by three or more shots throughout the final round. The Pro V1x golf ball withstood the elements, as Oosthuizen made only two bogeys over the final 35 holes in a strong wind that swept across the Old Course.
The victory is the fifth of Oosthuizen’s career, and advances him from No. 54 to No. 15 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
TITLEIST TOPS LEADERBOARD: Oosthuizen topped a leaderboard that included four Titleist golf ball loyalists among the top 5 finishers. Fellow Pro V1x player Lee Westwood finished solo 2nd, while Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909F3 and 906F2 fairway metals, MB irons, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport Fastback putter) and Henrik Stenson (Pro V1x) were among three players tied for 3rd at 8-under 280.
RECORD PERFORMANCE: McIlroy, trusting a full bag of Titleist equipment from tee-to-green, tied the major championship record by shooting 63 to claim the first round lead.
GOLDEN AMATEUR, SILVER MEDALIST: The Open Championship’s low amateur (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, 909F3 fairway metal, AP2 irons, Vokey Design wedges, Scotty Cameron Coronado putter) relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball and Titleist equipment throughout the bag. Awarded the Silver Medal as the low amateur, the 20-year old tied for 14th with a 4-under 284 total, including an eagle on the final hole after driving the green for the second straight day. He qualified for the Open Championship after winning last month's British Amateur crown at Muirfield. He was the only amateur to make the cut this week.
#1 BALL, IRON and WEDGE: According to the Darrell Survey, Titleist was the overwhelming GOLF BALL of choice at The Open Championship with 90 players, more than four times the nearest competitor with 20. Titleist was also first in IRON SETS with 37; and SAND, LOB and APPROACH WEDGES with 110. Titleist was second in the DRIVER (31) category, including 16 tour prototype 910 models. Titleist was also second in HYBRIDS (20) and PUTTERS (39).
OH, CANADA: In addition to Oosthuizen’s win at St. Andrews, Titleist Brand Ambassador Aaron Goldberg captured the Players Cup for his first career victory on the Canadian Tour. In addition to the Pro V1x golf ball, Goldberg relies upon the 909D2 driver (8.5), 909F3 fairway metal (13.0), 695 CB irons (4-9), Vokey Design wedges (48, 52, 56, 60) and a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter for his success. With the win, Goldberg earned a spot at this week's RBC Canadian Open in Toronto.
WORLDWIDE GOLF BALL WINS: Two more wins this week with the Pro V1x across the worldwide professional tours advances Titleist’s golf ball victory count to 71, more than four times the nearest competitor with 16.
U.S. AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP: On the major amateur circuit, the 21-year old winner of the 2010 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball, AP2 irons, Vokey Design wedges and Scotty Cameron putter en route to a 6 and 5 victory over his 25-year old opponent (Pro V1x, 909D3 driver, Vokey Design wedges) from Tucson, Ariz. Born in Seoul, South Korea, and a resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., the winner never trailed after squaring the match on the 2nd hole in the scheduled 36-hole final. He becomes the first Korean-born U.S. Amateur Public Links champion.
#1 BALL, DRIVER, FAIRWAY METAL, HYBRID, IRON,WEDGE and PUTTER: At the U.S. Amateur Publinks Championship, 131 players (84%) in the field of 156 relied upon Titleist golf balls, more than 13 times the nearest competitor with 10. Titleist also was the overwhelming favorite of more players than any other brand across every major golf club category including drivers (53), fairway metals (59), hybrids (39), iron sets (62), wedges (193) and putters (64).
