I have thought of doing it but was afraid of the procedure (afraid of needle coming to my eyes sure blink one). As my degree is not high I decided to live with it and just wear the daily disposable contact lenses for my golf games.

Yes, i did. You are so observant. It was supposed to be a sunglasses with transition lens, but it looks like a bookworm glasses as the lens are not dark enough. I only wear that when i play golf. Looks super "ah pek" i know. kekekeke.

The lasik is pretty scary, especially 10 years ago. I'm sure they have improved a lot. In any case, i don't think i will go for it the second time. Better use the money to get some coaching to learn to play better golf so that i can play out of the fairway more, and don't need to look for balls in the rough.

Salty, LASIK can be done more than once? I was told it was a one-off thing, you can only pull this off once in your life

Bro Eden, I'm still a beginner lah, so cannot qualify to compete with anyone so i'm safe.

I did mine with Dr Leonard Ang, Premium Lasik Surgery Clinic at paragon, more costly than most, but since he was reputable and its EYEs we are talking about, i rather pay more and go for a good doctor than try and save a bit of money and end up regretting later if results turn out not favourable.

Was 650degree with 150astig on each eye, corrected to 6/6 now. I did the surgery when i just picked up golf in august last year.


No Regrets and love the new found freedom from specs. About night driving....erm some pple who have sat my car can attest that i can drive quite fast at night with perfect confidence.

Yes you can do corrective surgery if 1st time is not ideal, but I think u must do it within 100 days or something. Your surgeon will tell you.

Price is now almost standard, advertised in newspapers frequently - $1,999 for 2 eyes, less than $2,000. In 2002, I did 2 eyes for $4,000+, same day surgery for both eyes.

Also, your eyes will not blink during operation- they insert a mechnical ring around inside of your eye lids so you cannot blink at all. Important thing is you must not move your eye ball when the laser is cutting your cornea. You will know because you will be asked to focus on a red dot.

mine was 4k for both eyes, doing Wavefront Custom Bladeless. there's a variety of different lasik.


Four types of operations done here
A 2006 study by the Ministry of Health lists these types of Lasik procedures done in Singapore:

Standard Lasik
A microkeratome (knife) is used to make a hinged flap in the cornea. Tissue is then removed based on the patient's refraction (the ability of the eye to refract light that enters it to form an image on the retina) prior to the operation.

Wavefront-guided Lasik with microkeratome flap
A wavefront evaluation is first used to assess the entire optical characteristics of the eye before treatment is customised to the eye. The flap is made with a knife. Wavefront-guided Lasik is a new technology that provides an advanced method of measuring optical distortions in the eye.

Bladeless Lasik without wavefront evaluation
Corneal flap is made with a laser, instead of a knife. Corneal tissue is removed depending on the pre-operative refractive error.

Wavefront-guided Lasik with bladeless flap
A wavefront evaluation is first used to assess the entire optical characteristics of the eye before treatment is customised to the eye. Corneal flap is made with a laser (bladeless).

what freedrop did was the microkeratome flap, using a blade to cut the flap, i did bladeless, basically using laser to cut the flat, its a bit less intimidating compared to using the blade.

U are wide awake throughout the op.

which has the lowest risk? Will they be able to do anything about astig? Mine is around 200, i think.

also, how long is the op, i.e. the time spent staring at the red dot?

Is LASIK insurance claimable?

op is fast, think 10-15mins, its all over real quick, i have 150astig, so 200 should be ok, it depends on your cornea thickness.

Lowest risk, don't do op. All operations carry a risk and some complications. Bro, go to the eye clinic and have your eye checked for suitability and also to learn more about the different risks and complications involved. Its very low risk but the decision is still yours to make, its not an essential thing to do, more of a lifestyle choice, something like plastic surgery.

eiji - i think you got me sold. With all the time i spend in the sun playing golf, i am starting to see spots and eyes are strained in the office. Seriously thinking of getting eyes fixed and wearing proper shades for eye protection.

I have 1 retina that doesn't really work properly anymore... Had an accident a couple of years back so the retina doesn't retract much under bright lights... Does anyone know if I would be a candidate for Lasik?

i went with Dr. Leonard Ang, cause his credentials are truly amazing, not sure when and if u can squeeze in an appointment while u r back, u need to still go back the next day after the op to have your eyes checked, and then 1 month later(so u might have to fly back)

from my own experience, Dr. Leonard Ang highly recommended, i have not tried others so i can't comment. His has his own clinic with him being the sole eye surgeon surrounded by beautiful nurses....i think that's what make me like the trips there, a lot of eye candy!!!

best to go for the eye check and let the surgeon know of your condition and see what he says/recommends.

ghoonk - bladeless vs blade might not be a choice for you depending on your evaluation. If your eyeball is too flat or sharp (think rugby ball), you can't use blade even if you want to. To "sell" you further.. statistically, more pple go blind from wearing contact lens than doing lasik..

ah, so the various types are ops are dependent on the condition of my eye? okay that's cool, less to decide, now I guess it is to try to get an appointment with Dr Leonard Ang...

give the clinic an email or call and see if u can book for an eye exam with option for surgery the next day.
