Like to ask if you set up and did you back swing and at that instant you realised something is wrong, can you stop at that moment and not complete the swing. Would that constitute a penalty?

Hi, no penalty will be awarded..but if u accidently touch your ball during downswing, it will be considered 1 stroke.

A back swing is like a big waggle.

You can waggle as many times and as long as you like before you strike the ball.

Ok. I got this habit if I feel something not too right at the top of the back swing, I'll just break the swing and restart.

No problem stopping your swing on the way up or down.

Problem if you stop, yet break something on the way up or down, that is, you break a root, weeds, or branch, or even knock down some leaves. It constitutes improving the area of your swing if I'm not mistaken. Then there is penalty.

So be careful with practice swings. It's the reason why pros step away when they take a practice swing.
