Question on Swing Tempo

Hi,

Hope to get help on the following Questions to all the shifu's, fitters, Pro's,

- Does Swing tempo (start of yr backswing till impact) determines the length as in distance of your shots in irons or does it determines how pure you impact your shot?

- Does Swing tempo changes for different irons vs woods or wedges?

- How does one perform drills to train swing tempo consistently for every shot?

not expert but i do think it does... also the speed will be an impt factor..

tempo imo will be the same for all shots except chips and flop shots...

The definition is incomplete. Swing tempo is ratio of the time you take to complete your backswing to the time you take to complete your downswing

A slow tempo is like ai miyazato and inbee park (most noticeable).
A quick tempo is like webb simpson, ricky fowler

Whether quick or fast or medium, its more important to be consistent lor..

I still use this drill from Vijay Singh on the range, i count a slow "oone" and "twoo" on the backswing and a quick "three!" on the down. It works for me. Theres an iphone App available. We discussed it before, i think called tourtempo or protempo etc

check out tour tempo book, it gives in depth info on the tempo studies that they have conducted.
It helps pin point some of the differences between Pro and Amateur swing tempos.

I using this method currently, keeping in my mind starting from address: Right Shoulder turn, pause and hip turn towards target. Keeping my arms passive.

As far as I am concern, swing tempo is a personal thingey ... Each and everyone of us may differs in terms of swing tempo ... To me, it is defined as the pace of the complete swing whereby you could attain consistent result (i.e. reasonably accurate direction and distance) ...

Therefore, your personal swing tempo could be quick like Rickie Fowler, Rick Price, etc. or speedily aggressive like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, etc. or satin-smooth & slow like Ernie Else, Fred Couple, etc. Most importantly, one is able to achieve reasonably consistent result with that swing pace & rhythm, and that is your personal swing tempo ... Swing
