My question is, after a while will you tend not to use it because you are too familiar or just don't be bother to check the distant. So all user , do you use your ranger finder at every hole? Or only new broom sweep clean? I do, but the question should be asked of yourself, whether will YOU be lazy.

| Here I go again ... S70B I only agreed with some of your points. However, am not going to discuss over them as it is not the objection of this thread Perhaps, i should get a Laser Rangefinder and try it out for myself. Oh, BTW. Did I mention that golfbuddy GSP can keep score too. Once you finish a hole, punch score and it show you all 18 holes with actual distance of each holes. You just entry your score. Also, golf buddy GSP also "peep" when pretty lady is around ( No, I am kidding but the part of keeping score is true ) | |

| Its ok. Thats why there is a choice.
If you look at the title, it ask both whether distance measuring equipment is useful AND which is better. I think thats pretty much on track on what the discussion is about.
I have used both which is why I can compare. You are still entitled to your golfbuddy. I have no regrets about my Bushnell.

| its GPS, global positioning system, not GSP and this topic of GPS vs Rangefinder has been discussed in great detail over at Golfwrx, in the end its a matter of personal preference. if exact yardages matter to you and you are mostly in fairway or within line of sight of the pin a range finder will give you exact yardage to the pin, edge of green, edge of hazard, no guesswork, gives confidence. a GPS on the hand helps if u find yourself borrowing fairway, playing on a course with blind approaches. the score card add-on is just a nice to have, with some systems able to keep details and provide statistics once you upload your scores, it shouldn't be the reason you decide between a rangefinder or gps. if u wanna talk about ladies, the rangefinder has zoom, so if the flight in front has some hawt stuff, you can use your rangefinder to "check" distance and measurements, can a GPS do that? | |

| My 2 cents worth.
I've never tried a dedicated GPS golf system before, currently using the Golfshot app on my I-phone.
I have a friend who has a laser range finder, not sure what model, but it was pretty ex ... think 700 SGD purchased from Sim Lim.
From what I can tell, the range finder is more accurate for distances, however, you need a steady hand to aim at the flag at a distance. The differences are not that big, mostly 3-5 meters, although there was 1 case where it was off by 10 meters.
Another thing is that it totally eats up the battery on the iphone, it can last 18 holes, provided the phone starts fully charged.
I'll probably continue using the iphone app, since my own distances are not that consistent, but I suspect that better players who can control their distances (inside of the variation between the GPS and the Laser) might appreciate the increased accuracy of the Laser.

| i was looking at the leupold gx-2 for a while, but did not get in the end cos too ex to ship. now the have the new gx-4 which you can turn on or turn off slope, but lagi expensive.
i used eiji's bushnell v2 once - must say its quite good and handy, with steady hands - prop the elbows against body is probably the best way to fire the laser. but i think if i hv rangefinder, i will be a bit paiseh to range the flag at every hole, cos sometimes i end up duff or thin the shot. knowing the exact yardage also no use if cannot execute the shot

| Yeah, I agree too. Been toying with the idea of getting one for a long time, so I started with the Freecaddie on iphone as a free, but not so accurate, substitute. But after a while, I realize the distance markers already gives a very good feel of the distance to green at (100, 150, 200m mark) and it doesn't matter if I get the distance correct to the millimetre because, 80% of the time, I can't even get my ball to land within 10m of my intended landing spot. But of course, that because I am just plain lousy. Now I have given up on reaching for the GPS. I'll just look out for the blue and white strips wooden markers and gauge the distance from there. More than sufficient information to make a distance call and it retains the romance of the game, giving me more time to check out the exotic nature life and scenery. =) - TITW wrote:

Although I's a techie and owns one of these gadgets, somehow I feel that all these gadgets remove something 'magical/unique' about the game; the human element in judging distance. (But I won''t give up my 'toy').. just my pov

happen to me on a par 3... use the distance on the scorecard.... overshot the green and almost into water

no disrespect bro, just to understand a little better, are u not landing 80% of the time within ur intended spot because of inaccurate distance control from your irons, its a common issue for our egos to take our better distance with our irons as the average distance and hence we tend to choose the club that we think on a good shot would carry and land where it should. I use to be like that, but i have learnt to be true to myself, my 7I is not gonna go 150m as much as i would like it to go and sometimes on a super sweet shot it carrys 135m and rolls that extra 15m, it would be more realistic for me to take my 5I for 150m and not have to swing so hard but just a nice casual tempo. so in that sense, having a rangefinder or gps can help, over time you can learn to understand ur yardage of ur distance gaps better, say for instance left with 150m, i pick a 7I and i come up short of the green 10-15m 80% of the time, i know that my 7I is only about 135-140m on average. and how do i get that, its either with a GPS or rangefinder for the distance before and after the shot to verify coupled with diligent tracking on my scorecard.

Wah... Eiji, your 7i on good shot can reached 150m ah.. thats very good. My 7i only plays 125m-130m at best. I envy you leh. Even if I topped my 7i, at best it hit 140m niah sigh...... Must play with you one of this day so that I can learn how to hit 150m with 7i *idol*. Even my 5i can barely reached 150m because most of the time I changkuled it sigh......My iron play sulks full time. Must arrange for a game one of this days. titu
