Recommendation for Range Finder

Hi Guys,

I was on course few days ago and reckoned that a GPS Range Finder will be a wonderful tool to have beside you, just like a caddy.

Thinking of:
1. Garmin Approach G3 Golf GPS Navigator 2.6" Touchscreen or
2. IZZO GOLF SWAMI 4000 BLACK/YELLOW GPS/RANGE FINDER

Any advice such as user experience will be helpful and if I can get them locally. Thank you.

Personally, I favour the conventional (hand held) range finder more than the GPS ones. I always questioned how stable are these gadgets aided by Sat Nav and what other technology that goes into making these gadgets click ~ to begin with you're not launching a nuke or scud to hit targets with pinpoint accuracy, so just how accurate are these GPS range finders aided by Sat Nav to locate your position, for sure there's bound to be a huge gap between the tech know-how in going into the former and latter…       

After contending between both options above, next is the brands to consider ~ should it be a Bushnell, Nikon or Leupold??  Well, all I can comment is that they're all renowned range finder manufacturers, but the latest range of Leupold range finders are the most compact ones in the market.  As for acquiring one within reasonable rate,  your best bet is still eBay (just make sure the seller runs a shop or has a credible rating) ~ been through 04 purchases via eBay before. 

Alternatively, I do know of some golf khakis who deploy both the conventional range finder and the GPS ones ~ just to confirm their distance hunch… 

Last but not least , as discussed in another thread ~ when faced with the varying distances to the greens are we able to execute the shot required to reach the green…? Well, to each their own ~ hope you find something that suit your fancy soon.

I have been using Leupold for 6 years. The model I have is already discontinued but I highly recommend this brand. Its tough and I often throw it around no problems.

Hi I think before you buy you shoudl really reconsider! haha.

I have lots of gpses but still prefer rangefinders by a lot. You can get valuable data you cant get from a gps. Distance to hazards are way way more accurate as you can precisely measure up to different sections of bunkers, trees etc. If you turn on the slope feature, you will know the differences between the calculated distance and measured distance which will affect your club selection.

I have used the garmin s3 watch, sonocaddie, iPhone apps like tour caddy etc. I have used tour caddie extensively last year but I have always used it together with the rangefinder. More for keeping stats and finding layup zones if anything.

Aiya, after I reply you my Leupold just konked out. Anyways served me well for 6 years. I bought a Bushnell just now.

Bushnell hybrid will give you the best of both worlds....the price is quite reasonable now....hefty discount compared to the MSRP

Hybrid must ship in. Ebay or amazon. Transview sells Bushnell but expensive.

I just won a bushnell pro 1600 tournament edition rangefinder in a golf tournament. I wish to sell it. It's brand new, unused. Just won it on night of July 4. If interested, let me know.

There is also another thing to consider. If you are far sighted and have shaky hands, laser rangefinders will be a pain to operate. 

My uncle friend told me this.

GPS will be useful if you cannot see the flag, dog-leg-left or dog-leg-right

IMHO, a hybrid model will be nice.

i am using Bushnell V3 most of the time. In case i cannot see the flag, i will use my GPS

I use Leupold and like the instant read out on yardage. My friend uses jolt technology and it takes time for target acquisition. Leupold also allows you to scan and read out distances to various targets. For shaky hands, you will get various distance read out, but one of them would be the correct yardage. Just have to deduce.

How much is groupon selling?

Bushnell Z6... Non slope version. Pretty fast target acquisition. Been using it almost every weekend for about a year. Original battery still strong. Extremely pleased with it.
