In snooker, it is determined by the max you can possibly score....

In golf how do u consider a perfect /near perfect game??

To me, there's no such thing as a perfect game. I've had really good games where everything clicks but I always feel that there's room for improvement and better scores.

IMHO, a good game would be where:
- I drive consistently. It doesn't have to be far but it has to be consistent and relatively straight.
- My long irons / FWs work well, with minimal fuss. I should be able to take a 3W and send one down the fairway nicely too.
- My short game should be dependable. I don't expect to send the ball within 5 feet of the green each time but I should be able to control my shots relatively well.
- I should avoid 3 putts. These are the bane of my existence.
- I should have a good laugh with my fellow golfers. There should be humor in the sport and we should be able to poke fun at each other.
- There should be a good meal waiting and hopefully, beers too Smile
- My wife would be happy to see me after my game and not complain about how long I took to play.

There... my "perfect" game Smile

A perfect game will be a game where one reaps what one sows. If I practise puting like there is no tomorrow, then perfect game = no 2 putts...even if all else fails

I read this story where Ben Hogan was asked about his perfect game. He replied, "I dreamt the almost perfect game - I had 17 hole-in-ones, but lipped out on the 18th."

perfect game would be :

-great weather ( not super hot and cool breeze)
-handful of birdies ( maybe 2-3)
- mostly pars ( include scrambling), minimal double-bogeys or more
- miniumal 3 putts

Perfect game for me :
1. Good weather
2. Good companion
3. Good laugh with friends
4. Good food
5. Break 100
6. Hit some good shots or putts that can be remembered at least until the following week
7. Good night sleep afterwards Smile

Theres not perfect game,
Whenever you play your best golf ever played, you still think that you can get better score.
and will think about :"wat if".. Alot of legend in golf say that.. Golf is a game of mistakes..
=) The less mistake or smaller the mistake it... U will win the game

perfect game? it's like hoping for hole-in-one lah.... golf is like an amplification of one's imperfection... sometimes, you top the ball and yet still GIR...

my take is, good company more important and is what can still turn a lousy game into a good game... i found many such company here in this forum. thank you.

Seeing this thread reminds me of a story i read 2 years back about North Korea's leader Kim Jung Il that he ought to be the greatest golfer ever lived, cos the 1st time out for a golf game on N. Korea's only golf course, he shot a 38-under 34 strokes, with 5 hole-in-ones! And note this is the official statement from the N. Korean government.

Really kill me lah........ ROFL

currently readign this book "Extraordinary Golf by Fred Shoemaker" thanks to bro stephen....

though only 3 chapters but now have a new perception or you can say view on golf...

maybe perfect golf will be a day whereby you thoroughly enjoy the game, u feel happy and fulfilled that you did yr best to enjoy the whole process...

not really about score but you feel that you really play every shot to your full potential and never held back. you take every results in stride (good break or bad break) And after the game, u feel u really did your best and enjoy it from your heart. no regrets, no bad memories just pure enjoyment from the heart...

then you will look forward to every new "perfect" game in the future... ")

Me agree. Pros see $$$$ as acheivement, amateurs see improvement as achievement.

I have seen touring pros shoot under 70 yet lose the tournament and were unhappy.

I also have seen amateur golfers shoot a few strokes under their handicap and rejoice in their personal achievement.

Sombody once said the best way to stop enjoying a recreational activity is to turn it into a profession.

Winner!

Great answer and a great recommendation of what is in my opinion the greatest book ever written about golf. Period.

I'm a bit of a bookworm and have a huge library that includes what would probably be considered the most significant golf instruction books. Of course not all of them but I would say most of them and if I could recommend one book from my library it would be Extraordinary Golf by Fred Shoemaker no doubt.

This book will give you a whole new perspective on the game and make you feel good!

I use some of Fred's ideas and methods in my teaching every single day.

Golfers, read this book!

Great answer!
Great Book!

Good Night!
