IN an exciting new development for the sport, a rich long drive competition has been announced, in which prize money worth RM45,000 has been put up for a Malaysian leg and some Rp2bil for an Indonesian leg.

Dubbed the FE Long Drive Championship, the Malaysian qualifying event will be held at Cinta Sayang Resort in Kedah on Jul 31 and Aug 1, and a final staged in Kuala Lumpur thereafter.

The Indonesian qualifier will be hosted in Batam on the same dates and a final held in Jakarta soon after. The dates of these finals are yet to be confirmed.

The grand final though of the inaugural tournament has been pencilled in for Bangkok, Thailand in October.

To coincide with the qualifier in Batam, several golf related competitions and games will be organised, as too will be the case at Cinta Sayang.

According to the organisers of the contest, Destination Nongsa (Batam), the proceeds from the two events will go to various charities.
