Subject: what are you practising now? Sun May 09, 2010 10:42 pm
For the past 3 months...been trying to learn just one thing...and still not consistent.....sian ..a bit demoralized
All i am trying to learn is how to square my putter face upon and after impact.....
I tried changing grip....I tried pendulum swing...I tried inside out swing...I tried "just praying'...but still fail...I even retired my beloved Anser-X...but to no avail...
Next course of action: Try again but try harder lor

Have you tried keeping your head down after you stroke your putt, listen/wait for the ball to drop or stop? Its a key to keep club head square at impact. (Trust your stroke)

Hi Ds
Getting the putter face square at impact becomes much easier once you have the correct set up angles. This can be done by using a mirror. Try to get the arms and body looking like the pictures below. The main thing is that forearm and shaft being in alignment so that the arms can swing properly around the body. This will enable a square clubface The grip is also important. Be aware of the angle in the right wrist. Once you have the set up correct, there are a few good drills I can give you to help move the putter on the correct path

The biggest problem I see with putting is that the golfer putts with straight arms. This makes it impossible to get the face square .
Hope this helps

Most golfers can not get the forearm and shaft alignment because there putters are too short. This causes them to straighten out the arms. I suggest a longer putter and make sure you do not use the same grip you use with your swing. You must have the grip more through the palm of your hand, not in the fingers. Putting is easy once you have the shaft and arms working as one unit Good luck with it
