Dave is a Aussie.
Nice lad. Met him a few times but not for golfing though.
They have pretty training aids and video analysis.
I have seen him coaching, exclusive training bays just outside the academy.

Hi Eric,

My suggestions for you in picking out the coach:

1. Choose one that is near where you stay. So that even when you are not having lesson, as you drop by the range for your self practice... usually... you can still get advice from your coach who may not be having the actual lesson with you.

2. Do not join in a group with more than 4 pax. It may be alot cheaper... but the amount of time the coach can spend with you during the lesson is very little... so it may not be as value for money as you thought it would be.

3. Go for a coach who can help you through to getting your H'cap card... and not PC because PC is not really that important. Check with the coach on the package leading up to H'cap to have a better idea on the actual damage.

4. Don't jump into signing up with any coach whom you may not feel comfortable with (despite good reviews from your friends) because different teaching methods suits different people. You can always ask for trial lessons (30mins - 1hr) to allow yourself time to see if his/ her teaching method suits you.

5. Try signing up together with a couple of good friends if possible, because golf is only fun if done with good companionship. Smile

6. Personally I have met the following 3 pros and would like to recommend them to you, but package wise, please contact them to find out more.
- Mdm. Joanne Yap (EZ-GOLFING.COM) @ Executive Golf Course
- Justin @ Warren Golf & Country Club
- Allen Kelly (http://www.2telgolf.com/) @ Laguna Golf and Country Club

Usually will be split into smaller groups but you pay cheaper rate. My group of 10 was split into 2 groups of 5, with 2 different instructors. Some days, not all will turn up, so you may have only 3 in the group.

Really depends on how much your budget is and how many kakis you can find. Mine was organised by my company's recreation club.

Hi EricSKH,

I took lessons from Chelliah at Executive.

Nice guy.

Help me alot with my swing, I was struggling with my golf after taking a long break.

He can also help you with Handicap if you need it cos he conducts Handicap test for AA golf Network.

I ever took in group of 4 2 years ago. But it wasn't enough for me to improve. Stop the game eventually start of this year with Allen Kelly, made much better improvement one to one than in a group. U might think u can save with group lesson, but that's only if you can pick up fast enough and also that ur golf friends learning with you can follow through together. I choose one to one coz of my timing issues, else always hard to get timing for everyone to come at times. That being said I highly recommend my coach Allen Kelly or shorthitter in this forum.

I started picking up golf courtesy of a best bud of mine, and first time I took a swing was at Green Fairways. Nostalgic times, those were.

Never took lessons, started as a changkul king, but because I learned the game with Nike Forged Blades (didn't know better, they just looked good), I could never play any club with offset. Most improvements were made at My Golf Shop back when it was at Bt Timah Plaza, back in 2001-2002. Many hours of learning to strike the ball properly in an indoor makeshift range against a canvas backdrop, spending entire evenings hitting hundreds of balls. Good memories there.

Hey bro ghoonk, my history also goes way back to My Golf Shop with Raymond giving me invaluable tips. Though I did not practice as much as you ha ha. Every Friday night I would visit him and slowly brought some of the members from Cyber Tee Box over there, a place for chit chat. I just visited him recently. He is now located at Trade Hub 2 #06-94 in th erear block. Still working just as hard. Usually can only knock off around 10 pm daily. He works very hard.

I agree with Ghoonk. Since switching from Mactec graphite NV2 clubs to blade Nike CCi irons, I have learned how to use tempo and technique to hit clean shots rather than just using upper body strength and arm muscles.

Even tho I have won a stableford competition with the Mactecs (36 pts), I cannot hit game-improvement clubs anymore--even R7 Burners!

I have learned to slow down my backswing (steel shafts) but speed up the down swing thru the hitting zone (about waist high to 4 o'clock position).

A good strike truly feels like slicing thru butter and the sound (thud) is great with the CCis!

BUT it took a LONG time (and a lot of money--range balls and practice greens--to learn how to hit fairly consistently with the blades.

I scored +3 on the NSRC Executive course yesterday--one bogey + one double bogey.

I realised that short game improvements (pitching, chipping, putting) are the most easily reachable to lower overall scores--one fringe chip/approach pitch + one putt = only two strokes!

BTW, after a few years of hacking around courses in America, Alan Murray was (and still is) my main coach in Singapore. I have gotten a lot of good advice from Annavi Chelliah (executive GC), Ali Mohmd (Turf City), Ernest Paguia (KinderGolf), V Lingham, Short Hitter, etc.
