I spoke with a friend of mine recently who got sold a cloned club. He didn't realize it. He claimed that it played like a beaut and he's a reasonably ok golfer.

On the other hand, I've also heard stories like lamts18 mentioned. The quality of the club is so bad, you might as well play with your umbrella.

Clones are similar designed clubs as the bigger name designs.
There are a lot of open mould designs out there, you can get a lot of designs as you like.

I built a set of Big Bertha clones several years ago; I think they played fine.
The quality was pretty ok too; about 7g difference head-to-heads.

Actually, sometimes even the "branded" clubs can go "flying".

They are usually assembled by hourly-rated production workers.
Sometimes your clubs are improperly stored; heat causes the expoxy to break down.
Sometimes the prep work is not done thoroughly enough and there is some oil/residue in the hosel causing the epoxy not to bond properly etc... Razz

Mine was quite bad too... I was at the driving range. Played a 7i shot. It was either a forced shot or a rusty shaft or both. The sensation is odd... one minute you feel as if you're hitting the ball and there's weight. The next minute, you're swing is weightless and it's like you're waving a branch.

Anyway.... I was so embarrassed. The range was packed with people. I had to alert the range officer. They had to blare the horn to signal a stop play while I walked out to look for my clubhead. Fortunately, it didn't take me long to find it. Unfortunately, it had flown some distance. It was like a walk of shame out into the range (where everyone just stops and stares at you).

I got my 7i re-shafted thereafter but the memory of this lingers on... it's been 15 years since.

Clone or compatible clubs is OK la...just as long as the person selling is calling it as it is....Call spade a spade..... also like Mr.Deng XP said " Can catch rat is a good Cat"

the worst situation is where someone get 'mis-informed' and paid a price thinking it is real.

Hi all

I just started on my golf journey and joined this forum in search of wisdom for clone clubs. I'm currently using an Acer XP 905 Iron 7 from my golf classes and am thinking of investing in a set. I found out about golf clones from the research I did on my free iron 7. Hence am thinking of investing in a set from http://Pinemeadowgolf.com or http://Gigagolf.com] but the issue is that I haven't heard much from the local shops (I called a few of them) and the community (here). The only notable mention for these clone clubs are via Golf Digest http://www.hirekogolf.com/hireko/webpages/products/acer_xk_golf_club_irons.html

As I kinda like what my Acer XP is doing for my golf, I guess I might just jump in and save my money for more golf instead.

To share what sites I"ve came across:
http://golfclubclone.com/
http://golfclonereview.com/

And also to share, the clone putter I'm interested in
http://www.customgolfcenter.com/product-p/xg-putt.htm

* I'm not affiliated to any of the sites above!

This is funny...
Never hear horns at range before.. keke.
If it was me, I would be too embarassed to go out and look for it. keke.

Probably, you could have shouted back at the range saying, This is then 100m! I want to see your manager!

i started off with x-18 clones and cleveland launcher woods clone.
Did not know if I was serious about golf at first, so went for the cheapest option. I think sometimes its the shaft that matters

of course I am not longer using clones now...ho ho

I got a set of ping clones (ZR1) from pinemeadow golf a year ago, and have been pretty happy with the clubs & the service from pinemeadow. iirc, I got a 5-PW iron set with driver, 3w, 3h, 4h + putter, all for 540USD incl shipping.

Initially only wanted the iron set... but it's so easy to add stuff when you shop online... so beware! Razz

Gigagolf would be another site of good repute, but haven't tried them myself.

Main problem I faced was that is that there's no chance to test out the clubs before buying, unlike other mainstream brands. Let me know if u're keen to try the ZR1s. Can let you try em out.

I've also bought a set from Pinemeadows while I was based in US (free shipping... woohoo!). I think to start off with, it's good lah.

After playing for a while, the itch will come to upgrade. Mine has started already. Very Happy
