Here is my secret.....it now enables me to do tee off approx 148m (carry) and all attributed to my online 'coach' :

3 Tips to Generate More Distance Off the Tee
Written by The Golf Drill Guru
Monday, 22 March 2010
Distance off the tee can give you a huge advantage over your competitors, being able to hit wedges into par fours, rather than 5 irons, and hitting par 5’s two can drastically reduce your score (assuming you can putt, of course). Sadly, golfers tend lean towards the self-destructive swing techniques when trying to gain those extra yards. Use these distance tips below, and you may just find yourself a little farther down the fairway.

Smooth & Slow Transition
I often see players make quick, rushed swings in attempts of getting more yards. I understand the logic, if you swing harder the ball will go further right? Well, the truth is, a rushed swing disrupts your entire rhythm. The top of your backswing is of the utmost importance – the transition, as it is called, is what sets your swing on the proper downward path to the ball. If this is rushed (usually by the smaller muscles like the hands and wrists) you’ll unwind too quickly, resulting in an over-the-top motion. This move will force you to release you wrists from their cocked position too early, reducing your overall swing speed, and distance. You must ensure you complete your turn at the top, and transition smoothly and slowly before accelerating down to the ball.

Think about it… you’re not hitting the ball with your backswing, so how exactly does speeding it up help you hit the ball further? Slow it down at the top!

Loosen Up Your Small Muscles
This may be news to many of you, but a harder swing doesn’t require a tighter grip. Tension is a power killer. A golf swing is much more powerful if all your key joints can move freely and quickly when they have to. Your wrists and arms play the biggest role in power creation in the golf swing. They must be loose and flexible to be able to cock, rotate and bend through impact to maximize the power your swing can create. They are crucial in creating and retaining wrist cock, and lag, which is the snap you need for long drives.

Your grip pressure should be quite light at address, so light in fact that if you gripped a new tube of toothpaste, your grip pressure would not cause a drop of it to leave the tube. Many of you may claim to have a loose grip at address, but where it really counts is on the downswing. This tip is what separates the long hitters from those who continue to buy a new driver every year. Relax the arms and grip throughout the swing!

Extend on the Backswing
Unlike your fellow passengers on cramped flight, wider is better. Your backswing sets the stage for the top of your backswing. The wider the arc you create, the longer the club will have to speed up before it reaches impact. Hit the range, pull out your driver, and take a few swings in slow motion (no ball this time). Keep a close eye on your lead arm as you start your backswing… is it straight and locked? It should be. Your lead arm plays the biggest role in extension during the backswing. Perform some practice swings and focus on keeping your lead arm straight until you reach the top of the backswing, this is what extension feels like.
Take a look at this picture; you’ll notice even at the top, my lead arm is dead straight. This plays a huge roll in creating extension, width, and is key to hitting the ball further.

Give it a shot!

DS: great tips bro... The thing is toekong hits 250m 4 months after picking up golf... Am sure the rest of GRians here are dying to achieve that. True that it really depends on talents, body coordinations, etc. But he mentioned the coach prescribed a simple training that will help if not all, then some of us here Smile

What had been mentioned so far are good indication that golf is a left centric game for the right hander and right centric for the left handers. Think left all the time and coupled it with the lower body to start your downswing and keeping the upper body (shoulders and right arm) extremely quiet will create a 'slinging' effect and this will effectively generate a high clubhead speed. Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Wood, Freddy Couples and list goes on do this. Their upper body was so quiet that the club head speed generated by their swing was so tremendous that they need a x stiff shaft to keep up with their swing speed!

Basically these are from my coach and constant practise to discover what he meant by keeping upper body quiet. It may take a long time to fully discover the 'feeling' but believe me, once you get the hang of it, it will open up more avenue to ball shaping and distance control.

This was also revealed in the book by Tom Bertrand called The Secret of Hogan's Swing. Countless books and articles always mentioned this thing about effective lower body movement and quiet upper body. Don't take my word for it but do a google search. To be able to have an effective lower body movement in golf swing, you effectively built yourself a swing that last a lifetime unlike stack and tilt which punishes your back.

Jack Nicklaus, Freddy Couples all built their fundamentals based on Ben Hogan's beautiful swing. Look at Sergio Garcia, he is the only current tour pro that has the exact replica of Ben Hogan's classic swing.

Sergio Garcia is not a very big person but he drives his balls long. Basically Sergio's swing is all lower body movement. Because his hips rotation is so quick and his upper body is soooo quiet, the lag created is to great that his club head speed is in the region of 130mph. Imagine the distance!

The backswing had been explained in the past few post. Just as u are reaching the top of backswing the weight transfer for right to left must start. Your right knee must turn to meet the left knee and this will in turn start the rotation of the hip. If your shoulders are relaxed you'll feel the hips pulling towards the targetamd now it is very important not to power with your right hand. Keep it dead and let the left hand pull towards target ie sling effect

I believe not only swing mechanics are fundamental to hitting it long but also building up your core muscles!!!

Look at the LPGA... Alot of them are smaller than us but they can drive as far or maybe further than some of us!!!

Building your core muscles will help improve your distances tremendously!!! Otherwise why does TW go to the gym to work out everyday...

I believe you... you will rip the fairway apart... right at the center of course... some of us will rip it apart as well... but from left to right... all the way to other fairway (or water for some courses)
Very Happy

Now on night shift. Sometimes nothing to do, so to keep myself awake, I have been surfing a lot of golfing sites.

I came across this interesting topic about Power Accumulators: In simplfied english

’#1: Bent right arm straightening (muscle power)

’#2: Left wrist going from cocked to uncocked (velocity power)

’#3: Rolling the hands (transfer power)

’#4: Shoulder turn (radial power)

Depending on whether you are a hitter or a swinger, you can only achieve 3 out of the 4 accumulators. Only the true golf masters are able to acheive all 4.

Heres the site

Yea, dun think. Just hit is the best way or mentality to go.

Sometimes, think too much will affect one's swing.

Based on my personal experience how on to hit it longer, you need to :-

1. shorten your swing and keep it compact.
- Overswinging will result in loss of power, higher/loopy ball trajectory

2. hit the gym
- strengthening your forearms and your core (Abs and Back) will help you hit it longer

3. rythmn and tempo
- this is everything in a swing, most of the time you want to hit it hard you tend to swing faster on your back swing and then decelerate on your down swing. The key is accelerating through the ball on your downswing. (remember to not stiffen up your body, be relaxed when ripping your shot )

4. Most important of all, get a coach and develope a sound swing. This helps you the most Smile

After saying all these, your distance may only increase by another 10 metres.
If you want to hit it 50 metres longer, it is almost impossible. Smile

Sorry guys for being away so long. I have been bz for past few days and seldom hit the range anymore.
Ok let see how can i describe it.
As my coach explain, one of the factor of getting a long drive is hitting the sweet spot. if you are hitting your hybrid, and you hit the sweet spot, you can hear a distinct "ding" sounds right?
i have tried that with a full back swing follow by a half follow trough, (my club will only be at the waist level) which is the way he thought me, and a nice hit like tat with a hybrid with 50% of my strength can go past 150m. I did the same thing with my 7 iron, with 50% and it can go to 150m. The key is hitting the sweet spot.
Some of you might have a different follow trough so it will be hard for me to describe it here.
And also mind you, i have been playing badminton for 20 years so my coach says that is way i have a faster downswing, even faster than his son's.

Yup. Sweet spot.

Probably impact stick could help to build your swing speed, muscle, weight transfer, lag.... which they probably will give you extra distance.

There're more thread about this... you can search around...
