i agree 500%. very often i use long irons tee off bu my mates use drivers, the score end up being the same..

I salute you guys. I have hung up my 3 and 4 irons already. Using hybrid replacement. If hole too tight, I will just pull off my 3 wood or 5 wood to tee off instead. Just can't handle the long irons well.

if i can hit my 4 iron 170m, i dun need my 3 hybrid or 4 hybrid??

irons more stable .... my 3 wood gone case... always pull... 6 out of 10 shots...

I have found hitting a 4 hybrid much easier than a 4 iron and same with the 3 iron and hybrid. Find that it is easier to get the ball airborne. Isn't that why people are using hybrids instead of long irons?

Perhaps we can continue the long iron discussion on the next thread rather than digress from Eden's original post of the best 3 wood combo?

muar chee and alvin: I usually score 90 - 95. Can't chip and putt to save my life. I know I should spend more time practising it but it just bores me to tears.

Muar Chee: BTW, never intended to give the impression that I felt long irons were easy to hit at all. But it's my personal preference to hybrids, i.e. I find hybrids exceedingly difficult to hit consistently. Trust me, I've tried and failed.

it's not hype. My guess is that you are a very good ball striker with a sweeping swing ala tom watson? can catch ball clean with high ball flight, shallow divots on shorter irons etc. That's rare. Delofting a 2 iron of the deck? Ball wont go anywhere so you probably have top swing speed to be able to do that, I bet you use super stiff shaft.

for common golfers with low-med swing speed and too-steep swings...can only dream. I also want to be able to hit my 3 iron. It's just damn wasted on the storage!

sorry again Eden...(btw fy favorite combo so far is TM Burner 07 3W with Stock Reax shaft or XXIO 5W with Fujikura for XXIO SR flex shaft (just plain vanilla, off-the shelf, retail stuff)

pushslice: No idea what my swing is as I only took a few lessons at the beginning and just tweaked my home-made swing till I'm ok with it. Bear in mind that the swing is still a work-in-progress. I do notice that I take a liberal amount of divot and basically changkul my way around the course. I changed to a stiffer shaft but it's because I felt that my ball flight was a little too high and in high wind conditions, it was being penalised with ballooning. As for being comfortable with hitting, I just bit the bullet and just kept hitting it and tweaking the swing until it became comfortable. Now... if only I can have the same mentality to putting......

Andrew: Thanks for the advise. Suffice to say that when I get to the green, all I'm thinking to myself is not to 4 putt. If I get away with a 2 putt, it's considered a bonus. 3 putts the norm....

i normally aim for 1 put.. meaning i try to go for it.. but if its dangerous.. eg down slope after the hole.. i will play for 2 put..

i will be very very angry with 3 puts and if i 4 put..... i will "throw my club"... literally...

Muar Chee: Yes, can hit 2 iron (never said can hit well though) but can't putt. Story of my life. I think the size difference between my long irons and a hybrid isn't that great. Besides, the usual hitting area of any club face is kinda small anyway, so it negates this issue.

Never tried 2 irons but hit pretty
well with my 2i hybrid. As for 3 iron, seldom use it as most of the time got no chance to
use it. Can hit 3 iron but dispersion is great but consistent distance. Hcp17

TNRM: we share a similar story.

i 1 stroke clear 250 metres,

90 metres, i take 7 strokes to clear.

Muar Chee: I know what you mean. At TMCC Gardens 2 days ago on a par 5, had a good drive and 3 wood to within 95 m. Proceeded to blade a 52 deg to behind green and in deep rough. Took another 3 strokes to reach edge of green from there and then 3 putted. I love this game sometimes.....

I agree completely. In fact that exactly what I meant. Excuse me, I am not really good at explaining things.

As mentioned, it is like a mini driver to me. Just not as easy hitting it off the deck. I switch shafts, trying to play the Altus in CB2 and Whiteboard in 07 Burner TP. I'll post up a mini review when I got a chance to hit it on the range as well as on course.

Try replacing your shaft with heavier, stiffer shaft. Got the same problem and an idiot with the nicest store in town put me on Bassara. Didn't solve it. Researched and found out the problem. I went from 65 grams regular to 91 grams strong flex. Problem's fixed. High-flat ball flight with a soft draw or soft fade on demand.

Aww, I actually found a hybrid head with square face angle too. Might be a factor, too.
