| 3 wood is supposed to be the go-to club when driver misbehaves! Just to find out, what is your best 3 wood + shaft combo that gives you distance and accuracy off the tee box and deck? I am still looking for mine | |

if so I need to get a 5 wood in a hurry.. hhaha.. when i started golf, i did not use driver and i broke 100 using a 5 wood. use whichever club that can get you the furthest and straightest off the tee! IMO, fairway woods are important if one wanna score on par 5 and long par 4.

| I do use 2i hybrid to get me 2 on par 5. Not neccesary to use fairway wood. Easier to use. | |

| Cyp: Wow!! 240 m avg means a high variance of 250+m for a 3 wood? With drivers being about 20% longer than the 3 wood, does that mean that you occasionally get drives of 300+ m? Alternatively, does that mean that your drives average 290 m? | |

| TM's 07 Burner TP with Bassara was long and easy to hit off the deck. Can hit 245 meters off the tee and averaging around 225 off the deck. Still beating myself for giving up the shaft to my Mom...
Tour Edge Exotic CB2 with Altus is like a mini driver off the tee, just not so good off the deck.
Adams' 3446-F Tour Prototype with Ozik's Code 6 is the greatest of all, though... Easy to hit off the tee and from the fairway. Although it is a 16*, it easily as long as any other 3 wood in 15* or less I've ever hit!

| Yarra, Don't know about the rest but beg to differ on the TEE CB2. Been using it for about a year and it's my 1st reserve club off the tee if the driver isn't on speaking terms with me. In fact, I've found more consistent results if I tee it up like a mid-iron, i.e. very low. It performs as well for me off the deck as on a tee. Heck of a club, if I say so myself. | |

| TNRM: I have read some really good reviews on the CB2 and have tried hitting one as well. Have to agree that distance "MIGHT" be further but that is subject to further testing. what about the CB3? Yarra: Any plans to sell your CB2? | |

240m....that is downwind and downslope for me mark higgs is a nice guy and nakashima is pretty cool in the fitting aspect. i mean mark would measure and ensure the loft of each head before even fitting the shaft. matching swing/ launch condition on his monitor before testing out his recommended shaftSSSS with the head. its quite cool that you can try basically all the shafts + head combo in the shop with the removal hosel technology. ONE thing that i do not like...its the look of the equipment!

| eden: I think the performance delta between the CB2 and CB3 will not be significant as they are both having the brazed titanium cup face and the construction of the body is similar. The main difference for me will be the stock shaft provided. The one with CB2 was the Proforce V2 75 and the CB3 is Fujikura Motore. I've never even seen the Motore, so can't comment on it. Having hit the CB2 with the stock shaft in stiff for a while, I like it's all round perfromance, predictability and weight. A minor niggle would be that it sets up slightly open (or could be my flawed swing) and I have to take this into account when hitting it. For me, a 3 wood is an area target club and even when going for pins, I make sure that I err significantly on the side of caution. | |

| for me... Ping G10 15.5˚ with Graman CF310 and TM R9 13˚/15˚ with Graman M75
DGMan doing it. Gives me 50 to 215 metres. Depends on how I hit it.
Shafts are available from $50 depends on which one u choose.
This one also club fitting.

| i just bought the new nike VR 3 wood on tour AD reg shaft and tried it just now... Whacked it at 210m off the tee.
but normally i will use 3 iron now. will give me btw 180m to 190m off the tee average and abt 180 off fairway when struck sweet.
Now my hybrid swing went crazy.. dunno why. either left or right. never straight. Sianz..
Suppose to be same swing as iron. but just diff... haiz...
so for me :
driver replacement (now my driver and swing is misbehaving) : 3 iron or 3 wood with tour AD reg

| Andrew: I think you will be pleasently surprised that the hype surrounding how difficult a 2 iron is to hit is a little exaggerated. I currently game the Titleist ZB and used to have the Ping i5. It's my go to club when I stand on the tee box and I feel fear in my loins at the view before me.

| Andrew & Alvin: My theory is as follows - If I'm looking to protect or hit a target score for the day/hole, I'll only take the driver on the tee box for par 4's in excess of 400 m. Ratinale being that the 2 iron gives me 190 - 205 m and a 90% probability of being in the fairway. With that in mind, even if its a 400m par 4, at most I'll hit 2 x 2 irons and if the 2nd shot isn't accurate, it's 1 chip and at most 2 putss for a bogey. I'd take that rather than being in the jungle or water or losing a ball with a way ward driver or 3 wood. Bear in mind that this is my opinion and isn't gospel. | |
