Updated with some pics. It's not fully done up yet the tank. Missing some pieces here and there. Slowly add things and livestock. New fishes added soon end of this month likely. Will put more pics then.

Mm this aro been with me about 3-4 mths now i would say it's about 7-10 mths old and about 10". Got this aro when it was a mere 6". Yeah color not so outstanding need to do some proper tanning. Gonna get another aro or 2 the coming week and a beautiful ray.

I considered the background before ordering the tank. This tank came in less than a month now. Black is nice, but im thinking for its other tank mates eventually. So between blue black and white backing. I chose blue cuz its darker but not too dark.

You keep fishes too HKam?

This aro is a Blue Based XB. The parent has light blue coloring on it so i suppose this will be the same. My first proper aro so i bought a cheap one. $280 from a breeder. Diet mainly feeders to pump it. But it doesn't eat a lot. Just moderate.

Gonna get a deeper blue XB and a nice gold one likely.

Prices have dropped a hell lot since local breeders took over man. The market for normal arowanas has dropped significantly. But most of the good stuff still come from farms. Stingrays too. Smile

Gonna be the most expensive sashimi per slice u ever tasted blee. Haha

HK, i already have a breeder in mind not to worry. He's pretty friendly and aftersales service is good too so i'll prolly just get from him. Had a cheap motoro before this will be a more expensive ray this time. Either marble ray or a BlackDiamond pup. See how much budget left over after buying an arowana. Heheh

Are arowanas costing at least 100 for all the different breeds? How u tell whether the breed is good? Will there be issues if u keep 2 or more in the same tank?

The endangered breeds generally cost upward of $100. They do have some under a hundred but mostly from $150 - $2000.

Quality.. hard to tell if u buy small. Usually from 8-10" if color shows then u know its good lor! LoL. speak to the people from the farm they are generally better to deal with than local fish stores some will sell u anything. And the general rule about $$ applies to this as well. You get what you pay for. My aro was $280 from a breeder. Quality wise.. i would say its low-mid tier. The mid tier ones would cost abt $800 now. The good quality ones like reds and blue base with deep colors cost anywhere between 1k-3k.

An arowana is generally not a first timers fish. I have kept fish for a year before i did a massive upgrade. I killed almost $500 in cheap fish before i knew what i was doing lol. The fishes i killed were passed to me from a friend as he was moving outta town.. so not so painful..

I have been wanting to restart this hobby. I used to keep arowana 8 years ago, that time a RTG cost 300, Hi back like panda gold cost 380 to 450, cross back easily 1k with those premium grade golden head costing 2k or more, super red is 1k to a few thousands. Towards the grand finale, I kept a tank of comm, 10 panda gold, it was really awesome. They fight for food and always hungry. Somehow keeping in a comm makes the fishes grow fast. My experience is that Arowanas are very hardy fishes so it easier to keep than goldfish. The tankmates like siamese tigers before Thailand banned exporting, 1 piece is only 25 to 50 for 3 ", now is very expensive.

prior to keeping arowana, I was keeping discus and started breeding...that was fun as well but this fish needs lots of TLC.
