PostSubject: Buying A New Set of Irons versus Custom Fitting   Buying A New Set of Irons versus Custom Fitting I_icon_minitimeSat Jan 17, 2015 7:03 pm

Fellow Bros, I currently have a TM Burner 2.0 for the last 2 years since I started learning golf. What are the advantages of custom fitting irons? What is the price range for custom fitting? Or should I just come out 1k to buy the latest golf iron set?

Club fitting depends on what shaft & head u choose. Forged or cast iron.

Bro,

Play ard with diff club head n shaft combi and then discuss with friends n fitter what u want thru ur playing style.

Some like high penetrating flight, some like low. Diff shaft have diff characteristic.

It's better to try out on the green than infront of a computer.

That's my take.

Personally, and I know some will beg to differ, if one is just playing once or at most twice a month, I don't really see the need to get custom set...  Agreed that that off-the-shelf eqpt will not maximize your swing, but clubs nowadays have so much technology and forgiveness. Unless you potentially have quite lofty aspirations or dead serious about including golf as an important part of your life, I still feel that the above-mentioned category of player can just manage with off-the-shelf clubs. I know two friends who can play in the high 70s and still uses 5-6 years old non-customized clubs. Perhaps I see golf as a passionate hobby but not a obsessive/professional passion yet..
Of course, if you have nothing hold you back to get customized, by all means just do it...

Check out Wizgolf at Bukit Batok range and see if they have a set within your budget, and suits your swing.
I personally benefited from custom fitting as off-the-rack shafts are a bit short and heavy for me.

Membina27a bro,

I think I might have caught u air swing below ur blk as I stay ard ur area too.

Budget actually depends on what type of club head and shaft which the fitter have shortlisted which optimize your swing n playing style.

One of my Frd bought a X-Hot2 driver for $290 n went fitting. The fitter recommended him a $600plus shaft which had given him good numbers on a launch monitor.

At the end of the day, a happy golfer will usually play better.

I believe you can buy irons off the rack custom fitted by each brand nowadays. Depends which shop you go to.

Personally i believe that to make our game enjoyable, we should get fitted. Its not the person adjusting to the equipment but the equipment adjusted to fit the user. Go talk to a few fitters before you commit.

Just my thoughts. cheers

I have been playing with my  current set for about 7 years now. Recently, tried out some miuras irons and the feel is just..... awesome. So backside itchy, went to customise a set and loving every bit of it. I personally feel that is money well spent. As my coach use to say, skills 90% clubs 10%. Customised clubs do make a difference but only that much difference.

My 2 cents. Have fun exploring.

For a cheaper fitting, u can head down to most brand demo n try out the club I various flex option avail. Then u decide which shaft flex during the purchase from the open market.

Buy used heads and custom fit. If it works, you can always buy another set of new heads.

Which clubs would benefit most from custom fitting? Driver, woods, hybrids or irons?

I guess it would be the club(s) that you find most difficulty in handling?

My personal opinion is that a session over controlled environment and often hitting on mat is not a good gauge of your swing over actual conditions.

If you are really undecided what shaft, what iron head, definitely a fitting session allows you to try out all the configurations.

However, once you are into fitting, you'll never turn back.

For me, I would buy it from shelf as I know exactly what iron head and shaft suits me and adjust the lie angle of the irons to fit me.

Do remember that forge irons offers more adjustability over cast irons.

Personnal experience is by going for custom fitting, I don't need to change my swing although that would be very minor. My posture is a bit upright and hence, I need a different lie angle and shaft length from a standard set. Furthermore, I prefer a thicker grip.

Well, if you can buy a new set of irons with custom fitting thrown in, why not. I went for titleist fitting, they didn't charge me anything. They will give you a detailed fitting specs after your fitting and you can take this specs to any authorized dealer and your iron cost the same as the one off the shelf.

Where can we go to get fitting done by Titleist?
