| Hi everyone,
I need to defer this question to all you learned golfers in this region. I have just moved to Johor after spending the last decade in Sydney and am now working in Singapore (long story why I live across the causeway and travel in everyday).
I am looking to join a decent club in Johor (on a term basis - year by year). Which club would you guys recommend? Nothing too outrageous in terms of price of course. Something reasonable and good.
I live in the Pelangi area so I'm nearer towards the town.
Thanks for the suggestions!

| Hi Bro Edwin.....first of all, I must applaud your patience in withstanding the daily traffic......I will like to introduce to you my 'adopted home course' ie Permas Jaya Golf course.....here are some key characteristics of the course:
1. 9 hole 2. Cow grass 3. Green condition is on par with most 18 hole golf clubs 4. long enough that you need to use driver on all par 5....and all par 4 (maybe except 1) 5. cheap enough that I can afford 6. on odd hour...one ball also can play
Presnetly Bro TechnoPaz and myself had adopted this as our home course....do joiin us when we play next...
PS: If I am in JB, I stay, one tee off follow by 4 wood, and then 6 iron...fm pelangi
...just me ' D ' | |

| Thanks for the quick replies. I just went to On Kee at Permas Jaya for dinner last night. Wife likes the food there. Sounds pretty much like my home course in Sydney. My house is near the airport and I play at a 9 hole course most Sunday afternoons (1 ball - easier that way) and leave my Saturdays for the 18 hole ones.
Do you reckon 9 holes gets a little too boring after a while? Also I need a course affiliated with the Malaysian Golfing Association (i think that's the right name) because it's high time I get a handicap card.
Been too lazy to do it in Sydney as most courses dont need one but over here it gets annoying especially if I want to play in Singapore. Might as well bite the bullet and get it over with.
A friend of mine recommended Austin Hills - I think he said 1 or 2 of the 9 hole courses is excellent there
Keep the recommendations coming! I will go course hunting this weekend!
Edwin

| Thanks looks enticing. However I dont want to take up life membership (and I'm Malaysian) so I'm not sure if I can take up term membership instead. I will probably be here only for a couple of years before I move back to Oz. No point getting life membership.
Also it looks a little far away - how long is the travel time from town centre to Palm Resort?

| I would love to but my wife is not working next weekend (she's a doctor at Johor GH so she works every day - madness!) and it's unlikely that I will get a "pass" to play next week. The following week should be fine! | |

| I am also Palm Resort term member. Cost is RM3500/year, or slightly less than S$1.5k As term member, you can play anytime (weekday or weekends) and pay only buggy fees RM35. U can also bring guests. 3 x 18 holes, decent pro shop.
Its near Senai airport, and it should take u no more than 30min to get there from Pelangi area.
Good luck! | |

| Lenny - good to know the term membership price. Sounds good. I'm rubbing my fingers at having 54 holes to play!!!! The only thing is that I need to convince my wife that 30-40 minutes is not far!
Leave that to Sunday! | |

| I'm joining the group at Octville on Saturday so cant play then.
Surprisingly enough I can join Royal Johor courtesy of my wife (who works in the Johor GH) but then I have to pay some silly money to play golf there as well - and I think there is a minimum handicap...so for someone like me without handicap, no luck...

| Yaya only pay 1500 for membership and I think still have to pay green fees and also need valid handicap card. Thought I read that on the website but being M'sia it could be all wrong information.
Yes I am sure we will bump into each other at Pelangi range. I was there last saturday morning. Maybe if you are there one night during next week we can meet up there, else I should be there Friday / Saturday.
Thanks for everything.
