| Hi DGman,
Got a set of 2nd hand irons, I suspect the shaft is shorted than what I should be using. It is cheaper to get another set or re shaft it?

| DGMAN, will you be in town either on 6 or 7 Sep ? I'll be in Sin and am hoping to have a putter fitting session as well as having my set or irons 'doctored' urgently prior to a PAT.... | |

| In my 11 years of playing golf I 've spend ard $2700.00 on Drivers alone, all Maruman driver starting from 270cc, 330ccc, 380cc, 400cc, 460cc, average price for these are $380.00, except for 270cc earlier cost me $459.00, Taylormade r7 $299.00, 2 pcs Nike Sumo 2 $400.00 all purchase brand new,... As for iron set S-yard U101 and later changed to Callaway VFT Titanium face till today. I do contemplate on changing to Ping G15 iron customised, after testing it at Bishan I was impressed with the iron, tested 7 iron at 148 to 150m on range ball!!! but at a cost of $225.00/pc x 6pcs =$1350.00 My current Callaway 7 iron on course 150 yards, sometimes I used 8 iron for this distance depending on wind condition. | |

Additional distance = More money spend but accurate bo? - iron eagle wrote:

| there is a guy who never had his club fitted..and he is a pro..everything the sponsors passed him, he just played them...until last tuesday.
apparently his friend and mentor, Thaworn WIRATCHANT insisted that he flatten the lie on his irons at the Thailand Open.
The result is his biggest win todate......his name is Namchok TANTIPOKAKUL and he finished joint 2nd, just one behind the winner Liang Wen Chong.

DGman That says a lot about club fitting. I do believe that there is some degree of advantage being fitted, especially when your swing is grooved and pretty consistent... To see what the OEM offers today (especially their shafts) are simply ridiculous...

| How much does club fitting typically cost?
Including the cost of a full set of heads, shafts and grips?

| well, if you are purchasing the full set of heads, shafts and grips from the club fitter, the cost of the club fitting is nominal and a very wise investment. as to the actual price, i am unable to put a price to it because i usually purchase a set when i go for a club fitting thus the fee is typically included in the total price of the set.
regarding the price of a set, it would depend a great deal upon the club fitter's recommendations to you based on your swing and your desire to implement them as well.

| from my personal humble experience, i started golf 2 years ago with a brand new set of tourstage irons (viq08) and it has been sitting in my storeroom for more 1.5 years after i converted to the prototype irons fitted by Big Fish. if i knew earlier i would have saved more than half of what i paid for and enjoy my game more! thank you eric and ivan *actually its the confidence that you get when you address the ball from what i feel la* | |

| I need help with this club fitting topic. So i pull my shots 7out of ten shots. i have tried mid size grips. helps lower the times i pull. And then i have a friend who strongly urges me to flatten the lie angle of my irons . But all my fitting sessions before say i play std lie and length.
Would really appreciate some advice from fellow forumers.

| i have considered that too. but even i hit it straight, the balls draw . can i correct that with a lie angle change. i would prefer to fade the ball these days. | |

second, by how much increments? half degrees? 1 degree? 3/4 degree? Nobody can tell you how much to bend without a proper assessment by a professional fitter. The problem may lie with your swing? Who know? Get your coach to analyse your swing first, if nothing wrong with your swing then look for a fitter to check your club.

hmm..i'm not too sure if lie angle could cause a fade or draw, but i do know the swing mechanic and alignment do contribute a larger portion of draw or fade. however, if you suspect the lie angle is not right, you can always have your iron check by a clubfitter. The usually way is to place a impact stick on the sole and have you hit a few ball and the stick should indicate are you hitting at a right lie angle. If you using a forge iron, bending of lie angle should be pretty easy.

| while the importance of the lie angle is at the ball impact position. the wrong lie angle can cause indecisiveness and affect aiming at address.
just a gauge so that everyone knows how far off they are...
you can measure your floor to wrist measurement. if your floor to wrist is in the 33 inch distance, your 6 irons should be in the 59 to 60 degree zone, 34 inch 60 to 61 degree and 35 inch 61 to 62 degree zone.
now if you look at the standard specs of most brands, the standard lie is in the 60.5 to 61.5 degree zone.
this do not take into account your stance and address position. so its just a gauge and without dynamic fitting its tough to comment what's right.
the best thing to do is find a fitter who can measure your dynamic lie position and adjust your irons accordingly. in some cases, golfers can have a different set up for their short irons and its not unusual to have the 9 iron and PW as flat as the 8 iron.
it all boils down to the individual and hence custom fitting is best not done online without looking at the person's swing characteristic.
