The Most Under-rated Golf Equipment Empty
PostSubject: The Most Under-rated Golf Equipment   The Most Under-rated Golf Equipment I_icon_minitimeTue Jun 03, 2014 10:01 am

Have been hearing some guys mentioned the forum has been too quiet recently thus decided to add some buzz..

Amidst all the excitement about new drivers and new golf balls, just wondering what is your view on what you feel as the most under-rated or important piece of golf equipment to you…

For me personally, I feel it must be the Range Finder (Bushnell or iCaddie etc etc)

I have seen many players playing on course, many times their shots flew over the pin or land too short into the water, not because they hit it too flat or long, rather their measurement of the distance, if any at all, was wrong..

What seems like a 80m shot could actually be only 70m, and perhaps that 10m variance could make a difference between water or birdie chance putt..

Thanks to some bros here who introduced me the Range Finder a couple of years ago, I feel my golf game has been more stable because I can better understand my faults and work towards it.. Instead of guessing wildly whether it's my swing, or ball, or club selection etc etc etc..

Anybody feel the same?

 cheers

How about Putter Wheels

http://www.putterwheel.com/

I read many positive review, mostly from publications... any first hand reveiw.. think this wheel will show if there is flaw on ur putting stroke as it will not roll true..  Dont thk one should practice with holing putt with this device.  As its intended purpose is grooving putting stroke

I use my Bushnell to find out distances to hazards, trees, buggies in front, etc in addition to distance to pin. However, for those who regularly participate in tournaments, you may not want to be too reliant on it as most tournaments would not allow such devices to be used.

I never have problems with distance from tee to green. The only problem is I keep having problems getting my ball to the wrong distance and places, despite knowing the exact distance. So there lies my problem. Embarassed  Sad  scratch

if no money to buy such rangefinder, can always rely and those who has it eg.Alvin7379 to check for you.
Good and bad. If he's your team mate, he will tell you the exact yardage but if opponent maybe he will not.

I think the most under-rated is the golf grip. it's the one thing that connects the golfer to the club. the weight, feel and texture of the grip can have an immense effect on the swingweight, grip pressure and feedback of the club

heavier grip = lower swing weight
properly textured grip = promotes softer grip pressure
material of the grip (whether it feels soft or hard) = affects the amount of feedback you get from your shots

it's also really fun to try out different grips and do a comparison. i just switched from golf pride z cords to lamkin rel 3 gen, and so far the switch seems to be a good one.

Can check with you where you gotten the Lamkin 3 gen grip?

I think the Golf Bag. It makes you feel good if it's "Chio" and attracts attention. Besides, without it how are you going to carry your bag.

Range finder accuracy +-1 to 2m, gps error can be up to 15m.

From my personal experience, not so much about under-rated, but more towards what made the biggest impact to my game.

Thinking back, I realised that at different points, it was different things

As a beginner - 25deg Hybrid (TM Burner 09) - was the only club i could consistently expect to advance the ball 80-140m, helped me get around the course, could not play golf without it

As a high handicap golfer - Putting Mat - allowed me to practice enough that I developed confidence in my putting stroke (reading greens is another matter) ... also, the 2 good pairs of shoes that I bought which have lasted till now (3.5 years).  Having dry feet when playing on wet soggy courses made a big difference to me

As a mid handicap golfer - Gloves.  Had previously been using leather and switched to rain gloves.  In our weather, hands get wet from sweat or rain.  At this point, also realise the importance of maintaining grips properly so minimise chance of slipping

As a borderline single handicap golfer - Range Finder.  Ball striking relatively consistent enough to benefit from knowing how far the flag is exactly.

Right now - starting to appreciate the differences between golf balls, previously no real difference for me in performance between a 2-pc ball and a premium 4-pc ball (due to my short game technique).  Starting to understand why some people like Pro V1 so much

Have left out talking about Drivers, Iron Sets, Wedges because these are categories of equipment that are seldom under-rated

Good reply Derek. I am still at the stage where I cannot understand the difference between the golf balls......except range balls

the most under-rated piece of equipment for me is definitely the ball retriever.

as a player who loses around 10 balls per game, the ball retriever helps me save some balls, in fact some times i end up with more balls than i begin with.

2nd that ~ range finder for me. However, knowing the distance is one thing, executing it to perfection is another…

I would say a perfect golf shoes with ever-changing spikes. My spikes has worn out fast, at least change once a month for the adidas. Champ spikes more lasting, at least 3 months. My first golf shoes have "crocodile mouth" on the left side of the left pair. Since then, i always buy golf shoes which have wider soles.
