I play friendly golf.  Don't bet at all.  Only challenge myself to do better.

This happened to me this morning at The Legend.....there is a flight of senior golfer in front of us and we are all queuing up to Tee Off on the 1st hole on the Hill Course....they start to Tee Off from the the Blue Tee and of the 4 players only 1 barely make it to the fairway 2 need to borrow fairway and 1 OB to the right....this carry on to the next few holes even my caddy is shaking her head.  The way they played I can tell they are high handi and they are obvious holding up the play. There are nothing I can do but to tahan la... as there many flights in front of them so over take also not a option.....The marshal also told me he can do nothing with this kind of "KIASU" golfers. This kind of golfers is not playing for score...they just want to hit as many shots as possible on the course so is value for $$$.

The Marshall can do something about it
But he choose not to do anything

To me, his response shows that he is not doing his job
Marshall kayu!

If it comes to Sg courses, the local Marshall may demand to see their Handicap cards upon receiving a complaint from the other members ... I understand OCC is one of the clubs which is quite strict on this ... SICC members are also an impatient lot and they would ring up the Marshall if they is any unncessary fairway hogging situation ...

It's definitely not just a Singaporean golfer thing, it's a GOLFER thing in general! I've had similar experiences over here in Canada and it's not fun at all - definitely an ego thing. Not toooooo common, but it does happen.

Not sure if this happens in Singapore too, but in addition to the long ball ego, usually golf carts and A LOT of beer are involved as well which slows down the round even more!!

If all golfers played within themselves, the sport would probably be played quicker and be a lot more enjoyable for a lot of people! Smile

I do agree with you that one should play the correct tee. I hate it when people have to use driver on 180yds or longer par 3 holes.
Now the truth is out. You hated me all along lol... thats my drivers distance  no matter how i tried. Gave up on achieving longer distance now and just shoot for fairway now. At least thats achievable luckily

You use driver on par 3 meh? Not that I can recall leh.

Actually TDO made a good point lah. It is not about the club used but the ability to execute. But I am quite unfortunate in that whenever I see golfers using driver on par 3, they always end up all over the place except on the green. Par 4 became worst as they will take 3-4 shots to get onto the greens, which clearly shows that the course is too long for them to play off blue. These people usually want to make the money worth or they have huge ego, wanting to show that they still can play off blue. Moreover, they have all the time in the world to relax and enjoy a day out, so they will take their own sweet time to visit all places on the golf course.

Sometimes, some golfers play Blue due to peer pressure. I know some of these people, they prefer to play from White but their friends who can play Blue play from Blue and that would make it difficult for their flight to play both White and Blue. And if there is a lady in the flight, it can become 3 tee boxes in a flight. Nevertheless, the kakis should be considerate to their friend who is unable to play from Blue. Very Happy

TDO bro I totally agree with you....a Blue player can play white with no stress but a White player will be stress out playing Blue and that take away the fun of playing golf.

I prefer playing blue tees not because of ego or anything like that. Somehow, when I shoot a good score off the white tees, it does not seem so "satisfying" and I end up thinking "Aiyah, it's off white tee lah, so no big deal". Similarly, I am sure shooting a good score off the black tees would give an even higher sense of achievement. I believe many golfers have similar feelings or is it just only me? The bottom line is still having consideration for golfers playing behind us. Do not spoil the game for others by selfish and inconsiderate behaviour.

Just a question for those who frequently play from Blue, who are able to play from Blue, if you know one of your friends can't play from Blue, would you force him to play from the same tee box as you. This might result in making things difficult and subject him to being ridiculed by other golfers waiting behind. The familiar comments will surface, "Can't even hit the ball properly and still want to play from Blue."  Shocked

Food for thought.  Smile

Bro, that's because you're a good golfer. I've seen many golfers who can barely get the ball past 150m trying to rip one off the blue tee box. Most end up trying too hard which results in even worse shots.

To TDO's point, I do agree that the flight is only as good as its weakest player. This means that if there is a white tee golfer in the flight, the other 3 should be understanding and accommodating. Golf is still golf. Playing off white may be less of a challenge but inevitably, everyone has fun.

However, if one is a die-die-must-play-from-blue-tee-box only and must-force-everyone-else-to-do-so, then it may be better to find fellow golfers who share the same approach.

I've been quite fortunate in finding golfing kakis who are more than happy to tolerate my crappy games and join me in my misery off the white tee box Smile

My shots are crappy from all over the course. The tee box is just one spot where they're crappy from. But I'm always happy to play with accommodating golfers - makes the day far more fun Smile

Bro Technospaz, in general, golfers are accommodating in this game except for a few. If you don't mind playing with a SC, I am all game.  We have good days and sometimes bad days, but I thoroughly enjoy this game, away from the traffic and all the frantic pace whilst on the course.

I think its more down to the player than the tee boxes they are playing from with regards to slow play. I have seen senior players who drive about 150 m play off from the blue tee and play like Speedy Gonzales and also people who dilly dally from the white tees and hold up play.
