| I usually prefer the upper deck as I am able to see clearer where and how my balls land.
But some friends tell me that the resulting distance is not accurate as upper deck shots will land further due to the elevated height which the balls are launched.
Is this true? If so, how much to 'discount' off the distance for shots from the upper deck to get a more accurate estimate of club distance?
Thx | |

| I was told by some range pro; 10%
But to get accurate measure....best to do so on course.

| Well, the range balls are not the same balls you used on the golf courses, so it is impossible to get an accurate distance. At range, I usually focus on dispersion. | |

| I don't like to hit from the upper deck as "I felt like I was gonna fall off the cliff" and hence, I failed to make a proper weight shift every time on impact ... Yes, hitting from the upper deck definitely gives one longer distance (because more carry). Hence MBGC range does not allow driver to be used on the 3rd deck onwards. Not sure if this rule still apply currently ... | |

Especially like mbgc, won't even go beyond level 2.

| I will usually practise on the lower deck to have a feel of feeling closer to actual situation especially to the green or the tee box.
However, I am practising on the higher deck these days. Haha mainly because there are more pretty ladies taking lessons or practising to motivate me.
Actual distance is really hard to gauge cos a few factor may vary: Performance of individuals, dispersion, ball and wind conditions. Practising on range is just focus on strokes, setup and dispersion.

| In fact, I get longer distance on the course, likely due to balls. And also dun think the distance markers are accurate... | |

| I prefer upper deck also. Like how easy it is to see where the ball land.
But never felt like fall off the cliff though. Turbo you must REALLY push your hips left lol. Try pulling back the mat a little?
IMO no matter how accurate you judge and hit your clubs, it won't really materialise on the course. Unless you have a Laser Rangefinder.

55 wedge Course 65 carry Lower level 60 carry Upper level 65 carry just wondering how do you measure the carry distance on the course for the driver n longer irons? Maybe I'm getting too old I can't even see where the ball ends up most of the time especially the drives. ..

| Mostly go for pitch mark and look back at white tee with bushnell v3. Once asked caddy to stand ahead and see where I am landing. Play at indah puri mostly. Not much roll anyway.. | |

IMO no matter how accurate you judge and hit your clubs, it won't really materialise on the course. Unless you have a Laser Rangefinder. In my opinion, in fact range is good for us to practise our swing plane, rhythm and most importantly to refresh our fundamentals as we don't hit balls as often as tour pro ... We therefore tend to suffer from muscle memory lapse ... TBH, I tend to perform better if I practise at the range before a game ...

| IMHO range is not a good place to check distance.
1) The balls on the range are not your playing balls 2) As mentioned, different deck the ball fly differently
Range is more for me as a practise where I work on my swing and grouping (direction), rather than finding distance. Else go to a range that uses real golf balls, Turf city have, but expensive. Another place is Mandai, though the real balls there are sort of baked, but some still fly true.

Sentosa.....but the rate hor damn ex. Another place is turf city, not too cheap either. The charge is more than $100 +++ for Sentosa range but walk in golfer is not allowed. One needs a member to bring you in ... BTW, Sentosa range is using actual high compression balls ... Not sure what brand but last time was Nike ...
