Cheap, Value for Money Putters

Anyone have any recommendations? Beginner here. I notice most of the putters I see in shops are quite expensive, like at least $200. Are there any putters which can be had for below $100? Am not a very brand conscious person so am pretty open to suggestions.

Cleveland Classic milled putter -$79 golf bargain
Odyssey White Ice - $89 golf direct

These 2 are the value ones in my opinion … with Odyssey my favourite of the 2. I like the feel from the insert and the 355g head weight … Cleveland ones feel abit light to me (340g)... u can get taylormade ones below $100 @ GD too But they are not my favourites … hope this helps …

i second the choice of 'odyssey' putters as the most valueformoney putters. apart from golf direct, you can also try golf bargain at harbourfront. bought my backstryke for $79

I'm currently using the Odyssey White Ice #1, I remember at launch 2 yrs ago it was around S$300+?, now so cheap. Bought at Golf Direct last month for S$89, many other cheap options there too, Ping, TM, Lynx, etc. There's an interesting putter carried by Transview, the face is rubber one, quite good and cheap if i recall.

Tried the SC Futura X recently, now can't get it out of my head

the one carried by transview is prob Fisher. they have different inserts with different colors, reflecting the difference in firmness

not a bad choice too

Out of curiosity, I bought a Cleveland Classic HB-1 putter for about US$80. I meant for it to be used as an alternative to my SC Newport. The HB-1 is shaped like the SC, weighs roughly the same and its got a milled-face also. Used ones retail for about US$40 and that fits your budget even more. Give it a try, see if you like the feel.

imo ray cook putters can be considered bang for the buck.

Thanks for the advice! Those 2 places are great for me. GD@commonwealth is just a stone's throw from my place. And I frequent vivocity a lot! Will definitely make a trip down to check out the putters.

I did a quick search on the putter, and found mostly good reviews for it. Care to share where did you purchase yours from? Is it Golf Bargain as mentioned earlier?

Yes I have heard about that as well. My friend has one he's willing to let go for cheap, but the shape is not really to my liking. Would be great if there's somewhere in sg which sells them brand new. =)

Putter is something very personal leh, how u classified cheap and value? Some may find Zen cheap and value and some find scotty that as well, some think as long as its functionable can liao. There's so many brands, shape and model in the market. If u looked into overseas website, u may find even more brands. For beginners, just get anything u think u like then that's should be it. Because most likely very soon you'll start looking for new toys to play as well.

Well, we all started off as beginners. At this level, we wouldn't even know what is good or bad since our swing hasn't been developed yet. Its perfectly understandable and quite practical for the TS to look for good valued/cheap equipment to learn and start to enjoy the game. Heck, my first set was even made up of hand-me-downs. There are indeed golf stuff out there which are cheap but with good value (ie HB-1 I got). TS is probably asking which models to start looking at, then go from there. 'Getting anything' doesn't seem to be 'personal' since its sounds as if there was no thought process involved in the selection. Just my 2 cents.

Juz pop by GD ... There are a few models below $100 ...

3balls (just checked) have some Cleveland putters listed also.

As a beginner myself, i feel putter is best tried at shop and to buy something u like to look at
chances r theres gg to quite a few 3-4-5-6-$^!$^! putts
and this is the club u will stare at when u get ready to hit..
so it must look good to you

go to shop, and play around with the different putters...
As many others here have mentioned, GD/Golf bargain is a great palce to start

getting anything mean as long as you like the shape and look, in golf whatever u pulled out from the bag, first it must be able to satisfy your eyes. TS asking models, but does he like what he see in the first place? I'm sure you also got particular shape that suit your eyes. Like I said different people got different value for $$$ concept. So he/she must have a value of what he/she willing to splurge before getting it.

Take myself to start, when I started golf people were talking abt PING, so when PING back then had a sales, I just try out one and thought ok this is it. Was playing quite ok with it until I itchy backside went to try a brand known as Scotty Cameron. After that, every game felt that my PING got something missing so finally persuade myself to get a Scotty. After that people was talking abt length so I decided that I should get myself something shorter, so ended up another scotty and another. To add on, now I feel the length is quite crucial in putter selection, I saw many going for length that's too long for them. Happy hunting.

Yeah, TS already mentioned its about $100 or below. There's nothing relative as the budget has been indicated. I guess the Zen and SC are definitely out of his price range. TS is asking for suggestions on good putters within this range such as most of us here have replied to.

I have a Taylor Made Kia Ma putter to let go if you're keen It's in really good condition (except for the cover) and it's going for $80

All I'd like to say is this. Putter is most important club in the bag. Some people never change once they decide on a putter.

Agree with @enwee's last statement, I've been playing golf for quite awhile now and really believe that the wrong length putter will make your life difficult.

Most of the stock lengths are 34/35 which are on the long side, considering us asians are generally shorter. It's like wearing a size 10 shoe when you are size 8, still can fit but feel weird.

I use a 33" and yet i still have the toe up (I'm 172cm), I know some 6 footers that use 32.5" , and below, etc..

I'm 1.75 m tall … and my putter length is 33"... OK for me …

It's all about what makes you most comfortable. Put price aside. Instead, find a putter which you feel comfortable holding and swinging. It's likely one of the more underrated clubs in your bag and one which really deserves a lot more attention.

I think its the chemistry and ability to align and frame the ball. Everyone is unique, maybe left leg longer then right leg or right hand, with left master eye.

I am short but i find that I work better with 35" <ray cook> as compared with my other putters at <= 34". The design will have to suit your stroke and tendencies. Not a pro, so i wouldn't go into that.

However I will say this, when you putt with the putter that suits you. You WILL know it. The comfort and ease with the ball rolling off the face and strength gauge for distance.

And furthermore, prefer to have low profile and underdog status. So it fits my bag. ;)As compared to pulling out a SC, less pressure IMO.

That's why its a personal thing. Happy hunting and putting.

 

P.S. don't judge the putter by the price tag, just my 2 cents worth. If it works for you, it will be worth every penny when you start collecting your birdies/eagle balls for keeps.

i think the length of the putter is dependent more on your putting posture, than your height. for instance, if you putt like michelle wie, then you'd be using a relatively short putter even if you are tall

the key question is - are you changing your posture to fit your putter, or your putter to fit your posture? If you already have a fixed / stable posture, then the question of how long your putter should be can be easily answered

however, if you do not yet have a fixed / stable posture and are still in the experimenting phase, there are a number of manufacturer's websites which provide webfitting ie the system will suggest an appropriate length based on certain measurements that you can take on your own. You can try Ping, Seemore, etc
