- Agree with @enwee's last statement, I've been playing golf for quite awhile now and really believe that the wrong length putter will make your life difficult.
Most of the stock lengths are 34/35 which are on the long side, considering us asians are generally shorter. It's like wearing a size 10 shoe when you are size 8, still can fit but feel weird.
I use a 33" and yet i still have the toe up (I'm 172cm), I know some 6 footers that use 32.5" , and below, etc.. Good example of tall player using very short putter is Phil mickelson. Anyway, I don't understand players can afford to pay top dollar for driver and yet come to putter no willing to pay.

| I am of the view that the majority of us accommodate our putting stroke to the length of Off-the-Shelf putters we purchased
I often observed fellow playing partners either grip down 1-2 inches of their putter grip or majority put with bend elbows. Seldom do I observe playing partners putt with hands hanging freely down (let's not talk about MW type of putting stroke as its an exception). It's not right or wrong, it's just what I observed.
I'm 1.70m and plays a 33" putter.

| Thanks for the input guys. Just dropped down to GD @ Commonwealth. Only thing they had under $100 was the Taylormade Est 79 210 putter. Next level up was the Ping one at $119. Funny thing is the Ping one looked exactly the same as the TM one! With just the name change, the price difference is $40! Amazing.
Gonna drop down to Golf Bargain in a while to check it out. Might head down to Isetan another day if I still can't find something that I like.
I just noticed many of you talk about putter length. Is there a "recommended" starting length to tryout for a beginner? I'm about 178cm tall btw. If I get a putter, and decide to shorten it in future, will it affect the overall balance of the putter? Sorry I have so many questions. I am a total newbie and not many of my friends are seasoned golf players.
Thanks! | |

| There is really no standard length, as this is all about personal preference. You can drop by to any of the custom fitting shops around town to have a putter-fitting session. They can provide all the answers to all your questions. | |

Thanks! The budget putters that I mentioned comes mostly in 34 Or 35 inch … and the head weight is the same even for different length... I'm using a Scotty 33 inch with 360g headweight... If I'm going to buy a budget putter now … I would buy a 34" Odyssey putter ( heavier headweight) and trimmed it down Or just simply grip down. If cut down a Cleveland (340g) to 33" Or below... u might feel that the head is too light …

| Thanks for the help guys. Just bought the face-milled Cleveland Classic 1 putter. $79 at Golf Bargain @ Harbourfront. Last piece of this left.
@cglim Will probably do a proper fitting when I'm more advanced. Now I don't even know how to putt. Don't think they can help me that much? Haha.
@enwee I cannot afford to get bitten. No blood for the bug to suck. Haha. Still a fresh grad. Haven't even earn money. That's why I'm not looking to get anything expensive. Once I have some income maybe can upgrade. Haha.

| Enjoy your new putter! One thing I found with this putter is the grip was kinda small for me. I replaced it with a mid-sized grip for a better feel. Well, keep everything in stock first, see how it goes and get fitted when you feel adjustments need to be made. | |

| Frankly no such thing as cheap or value for money putter. If you can sink every putt and the putter worth only $50, this putter is priceless to you. Just enjoy the game and the time you have with your friends on the course or range. Happy golfing. | |

U can go to YouTube to search for putting tips … such as different gripping methods … since u chose a newport style putter u may see how Mcilroy and tiger woods putt …they are using the similar style of putters … If u want advice on what length should u use, dont be afraid to visit clubfitters like bfg … it wun be expensive and u should stay within ur budget …
