| http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-29/golf-balls-fall-short-coping-with-21st-century-disasters.html apparently they have a much greater purpose in life than just being objects of brutality on a serious note.. maybe range owners and country clubs can consider such alternatives should they wish to give their used golf balls a new lease of life as opposed to the normal means of disposing them. then again, what happens to used golf balls ? | |

| Talking abt golf ball; does personal ball really flies further than range ball? Is it bcos of the density of the core or the skin that produce the distance.
I recently noticed that my 7iron (off tee) can reach 150m with carry but at range can only reach 135m. The rest of my irons (P - 7) also saw an increase of abt 15m on the green. So how do we determine which one to take reference if we constantly play with different (Rojak) brand of balls.
Can any of the fellow GRians enlighten me? I also still clocking score card.

Can any of the fellow GRians enlighten me? I also still clocking score card. well typically range balls do fly shorter in general. Some range balls are actually distance-limited balls where they are made of extremely springy material and some ppl refer to them as floaters. those balls will definitely be much shorter than usual balls that we buy and not only that, the spin and ball-flight performance will be rather wonky. regarding reference distances, for me it's somewhat a trial and error thingum together with personal feel? I cant say much in terms of advice cos i'm also nooooob but if you know that range balls are consistently 15m shorter, then use ur normal balls as reference lor. the range session is to hone your swing mah, not to see who can drive the fence =P also, you might wanna see a pro who uses trackman and he might be able to give some advice regarding balls and distances. pros who are on the new Trackman IIIe can normalise data to show u how your shot would be like on a premium ball like ProV1 when you are actually hitting range balls. i hope this sorta clarifies a bit. im still learning as i go along. golf is an amazing game.

| Thks bro for ur advice. I never intend to out-drive the net but rather it is more for my course management ie I can better choose the correct club for the required distance to the tee for I been losing too many balls which overshot the green during the approach n my pitching / chipping sucks big time for those >30m.
With that I will add extra abt 10m onto every club.
