The latest iteration of Nike's VR Forged Pro Combo Irons ($999) are aimed at better players looking for a higher ballflight and added forgiveness. Featuring a "pocket cavity" in the 3-6 irons for improved launch and a "split cavity" in the 7-PW for accuracy and a more boring trajectory, the Pro Combos offer balanced performance with the look and feel of traditional forgings.

A new addition to the tried and true design is a polymer material, which Nike designers like to call "shot-making gel," that is placed in the pocket of the 3-6 irons. The goal is to produce the traditional sound and feel of a forged iron while allowing for the added benefits of the pocket cavity construction.

“Our Tour athletes wanted higher ball flight and better gapping in the long irons,” says Tony Dabbs, Nike Golf Global Product Director, Golf Clubs. “We added the polymer to create a Tour-caliber set with long irons that are easier to hit, and players still see the profile they want at address without compromising on look, feel and sound.”

Other features of the VR Forged Pro Combo irons include high-frequency grooves for more consistent spin rates and a new Dynamic Gold DG Pro shaft that is designed to promote higher flying long irons and more penetrating short irons.

Purposefully crafted as a progressive set for the better player, the VR Forged Pro Combo irons feature a pocket cavity in the long irons, 3 through 6, and split cavity in the shorter irons, 7 through pitching wedge. The pocket cavities allow for a higher trajectory so shots land softly on the greens, while the forged split cavity clubs are designed for a penetrating precision ball flight, which allows athletes to be more target-oriented with every shot.

affectionately refer to as “shot-making gel” – into the pocket of the long irons, 3 through 6. The result: A pure sound and feel at impact, similar to that of a traditional blade or split cavity, with the benefit long iron forgiveness and more ball speed. The 7 iron through pitching wedge feature a split cavity design, with a profile similar to a blade at address.

The VR Forged Pro Combo irons feature the latest version of high-frequency X3X grooves, which deliver optimal spin on longer and shorter shots coming into the green.

Nike Golf partnered with True Temper and Dynamic Gold to launch the new DG Pro shaft, featured in every VR Forged Pro Combo iron for a progressive set with various weighting, step-patterns and overall bend profiles. Longer irons produce higher ball flight, and shorter irons are more penetrating.

Didn't like the previous Pro Combo because the pocket cavity felt hollow.
With the insert, it may feel "solid" enough

Bro DLWL these pockets are damn prone to collecting soil or dirt in it.. as time goes by, the cavity will be land filled .. perhaps the sound will go away lol

Im quite a clean freak. haha so I clean them out after every game.
Anyway I seldom use the 3-4iron so dun really get to use them. but when I have to, didn't like it.

actually the old combos from 5-P were great. haha but fell in love with the feel of blades.
