| What is a good percentage to hit fairways? I normally do between 65 to 70% | |

| If I can get 7 out of 14 fairways, I'm typically quite pleased. Of course, if I can hit closer to 10 out of 14, that would be nice And for those which don't end up on the fairway, the idea is to keep it close enough to the fairway and not in the thick of the jungle/trees/water etc. | |

| I think you have to consider the other 30-35% of bad hits, whether they are severe slice or duck hook which cause you penalties and troubles.
If your 30-35% is just light rough, It is still recoverable, then it would be as good as 100%.

| Depends on the course you play.. for mbgc and kranji think you gotta do 10/14 to be considered good fw hit | |

| I find that for rounds where I can post a decent score close to my hcp, I hit many fw with my tee shot
similarly, for rounds where the scores are a complete disaster, my fw hits with the driver was atrocious
I am a believer of keeping it in the short stuff or semi rough. 65-70% is pretty good
here is a statistic from the PGA tour http://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.102.html the best guy is only 71%
then again, to allude Slinger's cryptic post earlier, their scrambling is far far better than us hackers...They can gouge a ball out from deep rough and get GIR
but alas, we are mere mortals... 10 FW hits per round (about 70%) would be good Just my $0.02

| If I can content with driving 230-240 with the 3w for the whole round then it's about 100% | |

+1 But IMHO, if u played well that day how many fairway hit does not matter, unless you are talking abt competition rough like HH.

| Actually its not always short game short game short game Depends on the golfer. Long game problems (hitting hazards, taking penalty strokes, fairway bunkers, lost balls, thick forests, unplayables etc) are more punitive (cost more strokes) for some golfers than not chipping or pitching close enough to the hole. Google Mark Broadie and you can read his research/findings using statistics/shotlink tracker. Good golfers like my shifu Slinger have more GIR and fairways hits on average than most of us. Which is why his short game plays a larger role in saving pars. His long game is already UP there. Trust me I've paid good money to see it But many of us lose strokes from tee to apron. If so, our long game is still DOWN here. We will benefit from spending our time improving accuracy off the tee and off fairways until we can stay away from troubles. Thereafter your "arriving" skills is gonna matter more. I agree with Broadie, I saw it on my own game and my kakis game. | |
