| Subject: MERVYNTAN'S APOLOGY TO GOLF REPUBLIC Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:48 pm | |
| Dear supporters, users, moderators and fans of Golf Republic, I am writing this to apologise for my recent misdemeanour in this forum. I hereby admit that I created redbull2's account, and I am willing to bear all consequences, repercussions and legal matters which could potentially arise from the mischief that redbull2's account has created. Firstly, let me to explain why I created this redbull2 account. It all started as a joke between me and a couple of friends, and people who know me will definitely know that I am a person that is always game for a little bit of fun, be it tasteless or not, and so, I decided to create this account to create some entertainment for the forum, which has been rather quiet and slow-moving of late. Furthermore, the anti-establishment streak in me was acting up, as some of you might find that this forum has a rather serious tone, and I am often unable to be serious on the internet. I now realise that what I did was wrong, and I indeed apologise for wasting your bandwidth as well as your time wasted when you read my childish remarks as well as my incredibly shallow humour. If you noticed, it was definitely a weak attempt by myself to be witty, but wit is not something which is gained in a matter of days, and is a quality which I am definitely lacking. As for my bull-dozing of the charity game's thread with my unintelligent comments, do take note that I am definitely not the type of person who wishes to demean any fund-raising, nor do I intend to ridicule everybody's good efforts for charity or to help the needy. If anyone is in doubt of my ethical well-being or my charitable interests, you are welcome to audit my donations to various charities as well as follow me around when I volunteer at certain welfare and charitable organisations and see whether my care and concern is genuine or not. At the point of my posting in the Charity Game's thread, ridiculing or cheapening the efforts and intentions of the game was the last of my concern. All I was trying to do was to lighten up the mood, as well as create some form of humour. For those that missed the thread, all I said was that, will the charity be the "redbull legal fund", as some of us remembered that redbull was threatened with legal action, and I believe a large majority of us found that ridiculous. I was merely building upon this thought, and was just trying to bring back the humourous memories of the good old times. I would like to state that I indeed respect the efforts of our team of moderators in helping to keep this forum a active place, and I have indeed made a couple of good friendships in this forum. I have met numerous nice people and forged great friendships with people such as DG_Man, G_Man, shotah, SamT, LS, slinger, siaw9, Ssquirrel, bubu, KT, Elbry, Lamts, rocky, fabulous, Technospaz, CCC, Jimmychoo, Muar Chee, and so many others that I have left out, although you guys are no less important and I value every friendship equally. I do also acknowledge the fact that the moderators and owners of this forum are trying to make this forum into singapore's premier online golf forum, and they are doing a good job of getting there. I thank MuarChee for calling me this afternoon to counsel me and make me realise the harm that I am causing by indulging in my incessant nonsense, and being disruptive and non-contributory to the knowledge bank in this forum. I never knew that typing a few words on the computer and posting them on the internet could cause so much discomfort and distress to people. However, I felt extremely stifled, having a person call me up in the real world to warn and counsel me about my online actions in a golf forum - I felt as if I was back in school, being called up the the discipline master's office. MuarChee, of course, is much more suave and charming than my discipline master, and thus, I took his advice in good stead, and heeded his words to cease and desist. However, people who know me know that I am a jovial and fun-loving person, with a sense of humour which some may view as over-the-top, or too much. I admit that sometimes, I do cross the line, and I need people to tell me when I do that. But when I started out with my childish posts, I thought that this being the internet, and facing so much stress during normal office/working hours in our daily lives, we should have an outlet to de-stress and crack a few jokes. However, it looks like I have taken the wrong approach, and I sincerely do regret my actions which may have caused harm and distress to certain individuals. Another personal opinion, although I may not be a extremely good golfer in terms of score, and although I have only been actively golfing for 2 years, I think golf is an extremely social game, and 80% of the golfers I know are extremely fun-loving, easy-going, with a great sense of humour. With that thought, I approached this golf forum, similarly thinking that GolfRepublic would be this way. Some people might remember the good old days in toonshouse, where there was a laugh a day, a great joke all the time, and it really brightened up people's days, and I am sure people will agree with me. I still remember MuarChee telling me about one of the posts which brightened up a bad day that he had at work. Henceforth, I will cease my disruption of this forum, and I will cease to crack all my non-humourous and childish jokes. I sincerely apologise once again, and I hope all of you will forgive me. At the end of the day, I am merely a young man, wet behind the ears, idealistic and eager to learn so much about the world. I will still maintain my sense of humour, my strong love of life, as well as my penchant for quick retorts and jokes. However, I guess that since I do not know how to draw the line between unwelcome and welcome jokes in this forum, I guess I will just not say anything which I thought was funny in this forum. But people who know me personally can still continue to get a good dose of my sick and stupid humour, and my usual pack of nonsense. You know where to find me - where the laughter's the loudest, the jokes not often funny, but the friendship is always genuine. cheers and peace out guys and girls. with sincere thanks and apologies, Mervyn Tan

| Wow.. too serious.
Premier golfing forum or not, there will always be the oddball here and there who does nothing but make silly posts (and i'm not referring to you MT). Look at GolfWRX, arguably the most established golf forum in the world. They have their fair share of flamers and spoilers, but they also have a wealth of good information - which come from the active contributors.
I guess people just need to learn how to ignore irrelevant or offensive posts, if it really bothers them so much.

| Bro, so can i demobilized the people Sam ask me to activate? We were all standing by at Bishan range waiting for your call. hehhehe....
No need to serious lah. We are all adults and we have the right to choose what we want to read and what we want to believe. I think we can also choose who and where we want to play golf at.

| Wau lau, I was going to close my eyes and dream of how to get the Zen putter when see ths long long mail. Tot was another joke but the more I read the more it become more serious and now @%@%$# I cannot sleep.
Good on you MT to admit like that in public Forum..not easy Bro...Must salute you
Buy you coffee next time I see you at the den.
At least when you try to create some nonsense in the forum to liven it up, it shows that you do care about the forum and hopefully the owners will see it in another angle and forgive and forget. I too will not blame them cos of earlier issues and once bitten twice shy , you know..
Well let's move on and happy golfing and let's not get too serious in this forum else traffic will not be great...it is a forum to get info, make friends and destress..

| My half cent comments: 1. RedBull was with intention purely to increase the momentum of the forum 2. As I see it, Redbull did not have any intent to mis-lead the forum community on exodus or creditbility of the forum 3. However I think to 'toy' with the charity spirit was unncessary
Bro MT had clarified and say sorry for point #3 liao...so here goes again (for me):
Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
