| Just wondering how long do you guys/gals took to get your "swing"? ie. consistently hitting well. I know it depends on the individual. I started hitting balls 2 years ago and only recently got a coach. 15 hours of lessons so far and after countless of balls I got my "swing" today... I think | |

| It comes and it goes at will, so be discouraged when it goes. It'll come back, someday. | |

| I know of someone who became a handicap 12 in 2 years. But he played 5 days a week and had regular swing checks and more importantly, support of his wife. | |

| One thing I noticed is due to his constant play, he is seldom at a loss on what to do on course. So to set our swing probably not long. To set a textbook swing will take longer. | |

| Golf Swing is not a natural movement for a human body, it is made of several moving actions to form into one. Hence to have a good golf swing, you need to have many practices and try to make it as natural to you as possible. Once it is natural to you, the consistency will come. The Best is of course getting a good coach and learn the proper swing then make it natural to you. Some of us learn from friends, website, etc, then pick up a not so good swing and practiced it to become natural, our consistency is a highly inconsistent swing. I have been consistent in this respect for 10 years... | |

| I don't think anybody likes their own swings as everyone constantly wants to improve like distance, accuracy or precision. Next time you think that you got your "swing", see how long it stays . Virtually, others will not see the differences, only you yourself know. | |

| How long to get your swing ... It varies, but pretty fast for most.
How long to be happy and contented with how you swing the club ... For most ... Never
If your expectation is for almost perfect contact with almost perfect direction every time with every club in the bag, I doubt if there is any amateur in the world that good.
Food for thought, if you can't hit a 40 foot putt to within 18in 10 times in a row, or chip from 25m to within 3 feet 10 times in a row, what are your chances of hitting a 7iron to within 20ft of the flag 10 times in a row?

| Endless pursuit for perfection... Lol 1st time ball can fly - I thought I got IT. 1st time ball can reach 50m - I thought this is IT. . . . 1st time get PAR- I thought this must be IT. But until now IT has been changing and changing...

Absolutely especially if one does not have a good swing coach to guide him/her ... Golf is a very difficult and fustrating game bcos there are too many variables involved when executing a golf swing ...

| Don't watch too much youtube or else one will constantly try new things and over time, you will get rojak swing. If you are into a particular swing technique, stick to it till you feel that the swing is not you. I started to work on S&T about 6-9 months ago and must say i am getting good results. Do I follow 100% S&T? Hell no but nowadays I don't even think about my swing anymore. I just make sure the setup is right or feels right and just execute the swing. Of course there are times in which I loss my confidence that resulted in a bad swing.
One point is that I do a lot of "air swing" at home to make sure it is ingrained into my muscle memory and believe that has helped a lot.

I agree with you that too much techniques on Youtube can confuse us especially those who are still beginners or high handicappers ... I also agree that golf swing is all about muscle memory. Even the legendary TW did a lot of practice swings just before he wanna execute certain specific shot ...

| sometimes it isn't more on your swing, could be due to the lie of the ball on the ground (plugged, rough) each with different execution (hit deeper, shift weight to the left/right etc.. I think many brothers and sisters here can share their exp). | |

I think one should focus on the basic fundamentals and attain a relatively sound swing. Fundamentals in terms of ball position, set up, alignment, etc. will certain help in various situations in terms of where the ball lies.
